Need to VENT about our contractor!!
So we bought a house in Lynbrook back in September and embarked on a whole lot of cosmetic renovations to suite our tastes - crown molding, crack repair, painting, re-do bathroom.
Contratcting costs got way out of hand and the original quote we recieved of $22k became nearly $40k in the end after all the $500 here, $1k there...
We moved in 3 weeks ago and the place is falling apart! ALL of the crown molding is CRACKING severely at the seams and all the old wall cracks seem to be reopening! The contractor says it is due to the heat in the house and that caulking will always dry out like that in the winter time. To me that is complete BS!!! I would rather have had no molding than what looks like it was done by a BUM!!!
I'm so upset I could cry! We ended up stretching our renovation budget to make things perfect as we felt this was our "forever" house and now I feel like it just wasn't worth it.
Can I go shoot the contractor? I certainly don't have any $$ left to pay someone else to fix this stuff right now so we're going to have to live with it for a while, if not forever...

I'm sorry. Has he come back to look at it? The grout in our new bathroom needs to be redone and our contractor is coming back. He gave us a 1 year warranty on all the work.
If he doesn't repair the work I would report him to the BBB.

i am considering having him come back to fix some of the issues, but with us now living here full time it is hard to fix the nasty ceilings and such b/c I will not experience skim coating while living here - the dust is just incredible! The worst ceiling cracks are in our son's room of all places! The one room that I wanted to be perfect! Just so sad
Thank you everyone for the

Re: Need to VENT about our contractor!!
if your walls are plaster then i dont think that there is much that you can do to cover the cracks forever, except for tearing them down and re-sheetrocking. Eventually the cracks are just going to reappear through the new plaster/paint.
I am slowly learning that there will always be imperfections in your house, especially if it is an older home. I know that you just got it done and that is frustrating, but the problems that you see are most likely 100x more visible to you than anyone else.
