Need some reassurance - abnormal AFP results

So I'm pretty level-headed and I like to think I don't freak out easily - - and I'm freaking out.

I'm in my 17th week - feel great and have felt great from day 1. OB just called to say that my levels for Trisomy 18 are wildly elevated - but she defined it as a "whacky result" - since my initial levels were incredibly low. (Initial levels were 1 in 9000; more recent level was 1 in 5.)

She said the initial tests tend to be more accurate - - and given the wide fluctuation - she said she's expecting that this is a false reading.

I usually go to Huntington Hospital - but they aren't available to even schedule me until Friday (meaning I'd call Friday morning for an appointment - maybe for Friday, but maybe for next week). My OB called Manhasset - but they can't get back to give me an appointment until tomorrow - around noon at best.

I'm trying not to freak out. I rarely consult online resources on stuff like this, because I think it only makes you crazy......but I'm going crazy anyway!

Help? Experiences to share (preferably good ones!)?

TIA

Nope - it was lab blood work drawn last week (around 16 weeks).
