Need some input

I had an appointment today and it looks like I might only have 3 follies, I should know for sure Friday if the others are growing, but it isn't looking good.

I have great levels except for my atrocious AMH of .06 and an AFC of 7.

Here is my dilemma, do we go for a retrieval knowing we are only going to get 3 eggs? Do I cancel and try a different protocol next month in hopes that I get more Follies? I am on the strongest dosage of meds my doctor wants to prescribe but she mentioned a flare protocol.

She also mentioned doing a few just retrieval cycles, and getting as many eggs as she can for 3 cycles, then doing a transfer after she has some eggs to work with.

I don't know what to do. I am feeling very lost.

Do you have IVF insurance coverage? If so, or if you can afford it, then I like the idea of doing a few retrieval only cycles to build up additional eggs, especially if you think you might want more children down the road.

I definitely wouldn't cancel this cycle - at least do a IUI. But if your RE already has you on a very aggressive protocol, it's possible you won't make too many more follies in subsequent cycles. In which case, I'd harvest these and cycle again.

My insurance sucks! It is almost gone, which is the one thing that is keeping me from the harvest option. I have another appointment Friday to see how many follies there are. I am going to ask how much just the retrievals would be, then look into loans I think.

How long have you been on stims? was this your first monitoring appt?

I only had 2 at my first appt, then there were 6 at my last appt... we ended up getting 4 eggs 2 were mature and they both fertilized.

Are there any sperm issues? If not can you convert to an IUI? The cycle I finally got pregnant was an IVF that only produced 2 follicles and we converted to an IUI and viola! Strange things can happen! Might want to consider it if IVF coverage is limited.

I have been on stims since Saturday, so this is day 5, 300 Follistim and Menopur. Also a pill for low AFC, but there was confusion and I didn't get to start that until yesterday.

DH has sperm issues as well, low Motility, Low Morphology, low count. I am basically out of pocket for IUI's, so I don't know if I should put my money towards another IUI being that for back to back IUI"s it is about $650 out of pocket.

I would wait til your next monitoring appointment and see if any others grow. Hopefully your doctor can help you decide. If paying oop and batching is option, I would go for that since your husband has issues. If its not an option, I would just stick this cycle out. Since you are a poor responder, there aren't many protocols that will work. I know from experience. I would wait it out though, it can make a difference.

I wouldn't panic yet since its only been since Saturday night that you have been stimming. See what happens Friday at your monitoring appt.

I would def. go forward with the cycle. Remember it's quality over quantity. Before you make any final decisions see how many you have after your retreival and how many fertilize. All three may fertilize!!

Thanks for the advice. I spoke to my RE, I was wrong there were only 2 maturing, and my blood tests didn't come back well enough to make her too optimistic. She thinks if come Friday I still only have two I should switch to an IUI for this cycle, if it doesn't work then change protocol for next cycle. She wants to have at least 3 follies before doing IVF, and I have gotten that before with Clomid, actually with only 50 mg of clomid. So she said maybe a clomid in conjunction with another medication might do the trick.
