Need some immediate help please! Updated..

DD fell asleep at 6:30 and has been sleeping ever since... its now 8:45... problem is she NEVER sleeps this long for naps, and she never goes to bed that early... I'm afraid if I let her sleep she's gonna have me up all night long! She usually sleeps for 7-9 hours at night.. which would put us at 1:30-3:30am... should I wake her up? I'm thinking no cause her body is obviously telling her that she needs sleep, right? Dh and I dont know what to do...Chat Icon

If you were to wake her, how long would she likely be up before bedtime? Did you feed her before putting her down?

Re: Need some immediate help please!

I never really put her down... I was BF'ing and she fell asleep at the breast... If I were to wake her now, I think she'd probably be up for maybe 2 hours?
ETA- she's 12 weeks old so she really doesnt have set bedtime... its usually between 9:30-10:30...

I'd let her sleep... you know the adage "never wake a sleeping baby".

She could be adjusting her sleep pattern, mine did about her age or it could be a one time thing for now. W/ the exception of night feeding she should be sleeping about 12 hours a night. Mine go down frrom about 7-7 w/ one feeding between 2 and 3 am.

The only naps that I cut short are the early evening ones, but many people would disagree with me. I have never done a dream feed, but I have read that they work for many people. Could you try that?
If you are going to let her sleep through, I would try to get to sleep early, so you are rested if she does wind up waking!
Good luck, and let us know what happens!

Re: Need some immediate help please!

Dream feeding is when DD is sleeping and you pick her up and feed her. You don't wake her up. Just pick her up and put her right to your breast; she should instinctively feed but still be *dreamy*. I used to do it with my DD every night and it was great! When she's done feeding, you just put her right back down to continue sleeping.

I believe it is offering the bottle and having her drink while she is asleep. I wouldn't worry about the outfit, she is obviously comfortable to fall asleep this long....maybe remove the jeans if it makes you feel better.

OMG! DS did the same thing! He is in his swing totally sacked out since about the same time. I called my mom and she told me leave him alone til he woke up.

Maybe I will try the dream feed...but how do I change his diaper before bed?

If DS isn't prone to leaky diapers, then I wouldn't change his diaper. He'll let you know if it's bothering him Chat Icon

Great news... we stress this sleep thing so much. I guess it shows that they will get their sleep when they need it!

When Andrew goes down for a late nap I always wake him after 2 hrs and feed him dinner and put him in his PJ's. Then an hr or so later he will go down again for the night.
