Need some advice please

This is my 2nd pregnancy. My first I had severe morning sickness where I needed to be hospitalized off and on during the pregnancy.
This time around my doc is monitoring me closely during the first trimester so he can be ready with treatment. Here is the problem. My job wants me to travel during my 8th week for 4 days which means I'lll be in the West coast away from my doctor. If my hyperemesis kicks in was so bad that I was bed rested and hooked up to an IV constantly-there was no warning. Last time it came at my 7/8 week mark.
Sopposing I go to the meeting and it comes this pregnancy-my main boss doent know I am preggo Chat Icon and I'll be away from my hig risk doctor!

Re: Need some advice please

Can your high risk doctor coordinate with someone hear wher you will be?

It will be harder to explain to your boss why you can't go IMO than if you get sick.

Chat Icon GL & try not to worry.

I would not go...I dk..it is your choice...
but...severe dehydration can cause contractions and pre-mature labor-not worth it.
Can u get sick at the last second or something? or what happens if u just tell your boss the truth-u have to soon anyhow. good luckChat Icon

Re: Need some advice please

IMO -- i would tell my boss the situation and try and resolve it from there.. there is a strong chance this pregnancy is different, and possibly he can prescribe something beforehand. Also, and i know its frightening to think about it... what it comes down to is are you ok with the possibilty of having to go to a hospital and not having your doctor see you? Ultimately its a chance we take when we go anywhere... but if you can solidly say NO WAY... then I wouldnt go.

I am having been worrying myself all the way home to the point DH did say I should tell my West Coast boss. I was hoping to spill at 12 weeks but I guess I could broach the subject on the 5th after my doc appt.

The main issue is that with my last pregnancy we had to try different doses of different drugs until we found what worked. I was so bad that literally with this pregnancy he said he really hopes we dont go down that road again because it was stressful for everyone-The scary thing is that one day I wasnt nauseous but the next day I was projectile vomiting. SO it can happen as soon as the hormones reach whatever trigger level it needs. I so hope this pregnancy is different.

Re: Need some advice please

Just tell your boss and explain what is going on. I am sure he/she does not want you risking your pregnancy and being in the hospital so far from home.

I wouldn't go and by no means do I consider myself an alarmist. If you were hospitalized for that many months so early on, it's not worth the risk of having to fly back on an airplane with an IV bag & a nurse.

I would have my doctor write a note - unless your job depends on travel. If you are required to travel for your job, your company needs to decide if they're able to accomodate your disability & allow you to work locally.

If you do decide to go, particularly to CA, your company may have to figure out how to get you home safely if the hyperemesis kicks in. Not sure if it's applicable but if your company has a CA office and you work in CA, it brings a whole host of complications because of CA labor laws re: disability. If you were my employee I would want you in NY for your safety & the company's.

Re: Need some advice please

I wouldn't go. How important is this particular trip, and will there be more in the near future?

I would do the same. Have yoru doctor write a short note- she/he doesn't need to go into that much detail. Just state that you are under the treatment of a high risk OBGYN and that he has advised you against travel at this time. He could state that travel might be reasonable later in your pregnancy, but that will have to be evaluated then.

Unless your boss is a real j e r k I'd think that would be okay.
