Need some advice
So we moved into our house almost 2 years ago. Our house is diagonal from a the side of a house that is "that house on the block." Apparently an old man and his 2 or 3 sons/nephews live in this place. Literally they have old boats and cars on their front lawn, old frig, etc. Real trashy. Never mow, never landscape, their trash is all over the street. Now, we don't have to look at front of the house, but still. Plus some shady characters are hanging out on our street (b/c of way house is situatied).
So, I asked around to 2 neighbors who said the old guy was superintendent of public works for one of the towns until he retired, so when you call the town they don't care b/c he was there for so long. I fear putting a letter in the mailbox b/c there have been fights on the front lawn, yelling, cops called, etc.
Kills me b/c we are in a great neighborhood, great schools, nice area. Any suggestions?? Ugh, they just pulled up an old, broken down street sweeper that I am sure will sit there for 7 months before they "fix it" and sell it...ugh.

Re: Need some advice
I live next door to a problem family, not so much with junk, but with unruly kids. Anyway, unless they are breaking a law, I don't think there is anything you can do.
The only thing I can think of is going to the town office in person to talk to someone. Don't say the name of the person, just tell them what the problem is and see what they say. If they say they can do something, and then back out when they hear the person's name, tell them you'll report them to News 12

We're across from the same kind of problem family. They were ALWAYS leaving beer bottles on our lawn. One day I finally threw them back on their lawn, and there haven't been any since. I knew there was no point in talking to them.

We're having the same problem but with soda bottles! Well, once there was a crushed beer can. They throw the bottles over the fence, into our yard. Not all the time; it's happened probably four times since we moved in last summer. We throw them back too

Re: Need some advice
I am a real witch sometimes. But, I would write the town a letter, in the letter I would state that you know from other sources that since he was a town employee for so long they turn the heads, and CC the newspaper. Once Newsday gets this letter the town and possibly the newspaper will get it cleaned up. You dont have to put your name, just sign it "Concerned Neighbor" or something like that. The way Newsday is ripping apart the towns they wont want the publiciity. Even if you mail Newsdays copy a little later to give the town time to act on it.
