You can fly into SFO, Oakland or Sacramento. They're all about the same distance from Napa.
How long is your trip? I would suggest SFO or Oakland and spend some time in San Francisco as well.
They have wine tours where you can go from winery to winery on bus or train or limo, or rent a car. There are tons of cute inns and B&Bs.

We flew into SFO. We stayed in Sonoma and toured both Sonoma and Napa.
We did hot air balooning in Napa. I highly recommend it.
We drove down Rt 1 to Big Sur. Maybe the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. Breathtaking.

We flew into San Fran, stayed there for 3 days, then drove to Napa and stayed there for 2 days. We stayed at a B&B in Napa, which has now changed ownership and caters to gay couples.
In Napa we ate a great restaurant called Cuvee. I highly recommend it.

We flew into Oakland on JetBlue and spent a few days in SFO and then a few up in Napa. We stayed at the Marriott and got a great deal on it through Priceline (half price).
I enjoyed the square in Sonoma a lot and I enjoyed the lesser known vineyards a lot more than the popular ones - you got more bang for your buck there and the opportunity to taste very good, expensive wines.

Re: Need recs & tips for a trip to Napa Valley
Napa is one of our stops in Cali when we go in august.. I spent a TON of time researching.
Were flying into San fran on jetblue, then driving to napa the next day.
Were staying at the old world inn, which had great reviews and great prices. As for driving to the wineries, we hired napa bee driven..they drive your car and it's a lot cheaper than hiring a car service. We also made reservations at the culinary institutes restaurant.
The only winery we know were visiting is st supery, but im waiting until the end of may to book the winery tours.
