i know that hyundais are reasonably priced, and seem to be good cars... maybe you could lookl at the santa fe??
or anything slightly used would be good... i have a new toyota RAV 4... and i know that toyotas have great reputations and you could probably find one used for a good price, that would still be a good car....

Re: Need recommendation on cheap SUV or station wagon

I have a Subaru Forrester, and I love it. I am not sure whether you'd consider it cheap or not, but I think it is less expensive than the outback.

It has AWD and a hatch back, not bad on gas mileage and rated in the top 3 in Consumer Reports for small SUVs (the other 2 being Honda CRV and the Toyota Rav4)

Someone we know has a Hyundai Santa Fe and has nothing but good things to say about it.

Re: Need recommendation on cheap SUV or station wagon

you should look into the Hyundai Tuscon or the Honda CRV. both very reasonably priced and small SUVs.

I have a Toyota Matrix, I am happy with it, its very roomy. Its a wagon, but doesn't really look like one. I don't know what you mean by "cheap," but I don't think it was a particularly expenive car.

Re: Need recommendation on cheap SUV or station wagon

We just traded my Neon in for a Hyundai Santa Fe and I LOVE it. Gas mileage isn't horrible (although my Neon got better for obvious reasons).

We didn't get the Limited (with all the bells and whistles), but we got the AWD-which is nice. The warranty is great too. We looked at the Tuscan, which is also nice, but we really wanted something a little bigger.

I am surpirised at the amount of room it has- they revamped the whole body style for 2007 (my parents have a 2002- and also have NO complaints- they love that SUV).

Really??? I had no idea!!
Thats actually weird- I have mine on a lease and have to turn it in in a year. The last car I had - the Celica - was also discontinued right before I had to turn it in!

Yeah my mom wants one (my sister has one & they kind of share it now but my sis is moving to MD so no more sharing for ym mom) She has the 4wd model & it is great. So my mom went to go look & they were all used or last years models. She asked why & they discontinued it since they introduced the YarisChat Icon

my sister has one and they love it...but they had trouble sitting in the front seat with the infant seat in the back - just FYI. My sister would just sit in the back with the baby until they went to the convertable seat.

I have the Pontiac Vibe and love it!!! It is a very similar body type to the Matrix and i know that they came out with an 07 so i think they will still be around. I usually get ~240 miles to a full tank and it's usually $24.00 to fill up!!!

The Vibe is actually a bit too small. I will have a stroller and a dog crate to fit in the trunk.

I like the Nitro but it looks like a rip off of the big Lexus. It also looks like an army vehicle. I would get the cute lil Avenger before the Nitro.
The Pilot also looks like a Lexus rip off. The Rav is adorable!

I love my Honda CRV, but that might be too small for what you are looking for . . .
