Need middle of the night CIO support
I tried it last night - I caved after 40 minutes. I rubbed his back and then he actually reached up for me and I ended up picking him up and rocking him - ugh. I'm buying ear plugs tonight to help. DH didn't help either when he a) went in at 3 minutes to rub his back, b) turned on the hallway light, and c) said to me in the middle "so you're just going to let him cry"? - even though we discussed it. I know I need to do this, he needs to learn to go back to sleep -he was so close a few times, but then would get up again.

I know it's hard, but if you're going to do it, you and your DH both have to commit and let the process work. Many of us have been there - it sucks when you're in it, but it really does work!

the more you give in, the longer the whole process will take.

ITA! It has to be a group effort between you and your DH or else your DS won't "get" it - he'll keep thinking someone is going to come get him. It's hard, but usually it only takes a couple/few nights and then they will be sleeping SO much better and they neeeeed their sleep (more than we need ours). I know a lot of parents think, oh I need to sleep so let me let them CIO, but really it's more so that THEY learn to sleep because it's for their benefit. Maybe express it that way to your DH so he can be fully on board with you. Good luck!
