Need Metformin help, please!

Ok, so...

I started doubling pill on Monday (went up from 850 mg to 1700 mg daily). For the sake of only having to worry about it once, I"ve been taking the two pills together with dinner.

This morning was the first time I've felt ANY side effects--I was VERY nauseous and wound up tossing my breakfast Chat Icon

When I sat down to read the patient info sheet, it says to take one pill twice daily. Does that mean that I SHOULDN'T be taking them together?

What do the rest of you do? I took another two with dinner tonight, just because I refuse to give in--I want to keep this up!

Any thoughts? Am I essentially overdosing myself?

I take 3 pills a day total...1 with breakfast, and 2 together at night before bed. It could just be your body getting used the Met. Just hang in there (I know, easier said than done, I had a HORRIBLE time in the beginnng).

I'm taking 4 pills a day (2 at breakfast and 2 at dinner) and it definitely takes getting used to. I would ask your RE, but I'm sure you can break it up if you want to. I still have bad days with stomach upsets and I've been on it for a while.

Hi,

I am on 1500mg/day (3 pills a day) so I take one pill with breakfast, lunch, and dinner and I haven't had a problem. I did forget my afternoon dose once or twice and ended up taking 2 pills at a dinner but I was okay. I think it's all what your body gets use to and can tolerate. I find with the Metformin it's more about what you're eating than when you're taking the pills but that has just been my experience. Good luck......hang in there!!!

I took 2000 mg together and I would take it at night before I went to bed. In the beginning, I would take it with some milk, ice cream, cheese, etc....then I went to just taking the pills. When you are on met, you also have to be careful of your diet. Greasy fatty foods throws your stomach into a tizzy!

Good Luck!!

Re: Need Metformin help, please!

I take 1500mg, or 3 500mg pills a day. I never take them together if I can avoid it. I usually try to take one with each meal.
The times I forget and I do take more than one I always regret it.
I have never vomited from it though. Maybe you have some kind of bug and the met is just a coincidence?

That's what I'm thinking, too. Today I felt fine ::knock on wood::, so hopefully that was it!

So I guess it's ok to take two together then, since it seems most of you do at some point. It's better for me to just get it all done at once, I think. Chat Icon
