Need help...in pain
I just got home from the dentist 1 hr ago after an excruciating root canal. I had one before but it never hurt like this one. I am in tears....OMG! the pain
I am taking Lurpron and Bravelle; might trigger this weekend...
My question is.... can I take Advil, Aleeve, Motrin, or Tylenol
What about more powerful pain killer like percocet. I have some left over from a surgery I had not long ago on my neck.
I don't think I can stand this pain any longer...I am trying to stand it as much as I can, but the pain is winning!
Thank you for your help

ugh, that's terrible! I'm sorry!! all i would take is tylenol to be honest. dont lay flat, try and stay elevated so blood doesn't pool in your gums, it will make it throb more. feel better!!

Re: Need help...in pain
I have chronic back problem and dr b has always allowed me to continue to take motrin and percocet up until transfer. They even prescribed me percocet after my retrieval. If you still are weary give your dr a call. IMO it's not good for you to suffer through Excruciating pain. Feel better

A bit better, thanks I took tylenol. I couldn't stand it anymore. This was my second root canal ever. I had a root canal done last month and it hadn't hurt as much. When I went in yesterday, there were a lot of things working against me...
1st...Doctor was running late and she wanted to leave. The last time she had put a numbing cream on my gums for about 10 minutes before injecting the local anesthesia so that I wouldn't be in so much pain. I thought that was great of her. Well, yesterday, she was in such a hurry that she put the cream for less than a minute and started injecting right away. OMG! it took me by surprise and I am scared of needles...go figure!
2nd---I have very sensitive gums and after she injected a couple of times and began the process of the root canal, I was in so much pain that she had to stop and inject me about 5 more times.
3rd---After she open the tooth to get in...my root was still extremely sensitive and the numbing had not totally set in, so she went inside my tooth and injected me directly to the root... I thought I was going to die I broke out in a cold sweat.
4th---after all that, she was so rough because she was in a hurry to leave.
5th---I told her I was still in a bit of pain from the root canal she did last month (with that one, the experience was a breeze). Well, she took an xray and determined that the reason it was hurting was because she didn't get the whole root. Apparently, my roots are one of the longest she has ever seen. I mean...couldn't she had seen that a month ago when she took the x-ray after the root canal : ( So, she went in on my other tooth to finish the root canal she had not finished. Well, she did not even numb me for that until I screamed at the top of my lungs...OMG!
It wasn't my fault she was running late. My appointment was for 6pm and I was there at 5:35pm. I was not seen until 7pm because apparently she took so long with one patient who delayed the whole day and then another patient arrived an hour late. Consequently, her whole day was back-ed up. To top it all, she supposedly had a date that night. I know that, because while she was drilling on me, she was complaining and discussing her personal business with the dental hygienist that was assisting her.
Now, throughout my whole ordeal, she is complaining to the hygienist on how she is overbooked, how they are inconsiderate, and the best one of all....
I HATE DOING ROOT CANALS. I HATE MY JOB!
all of this while I am on the chair....aaaaahhhhh!
Sorry about the length.....

Thank you for the advice. I feel better, but was unable to sleep much last night. I am still in a lot of pain, but not as horrible as last night. Poor DH, I was the worst and most cranky he has ever seen me. I took a few Tylenol throughout the night.
I am going to call my RE today and check, just in case the pain doesn't go away.

WHAT???? sooo unprofessional!! When i first started reading u were in alot of pain initally and she had to keep numbing u up i thought maybe theres infection. If theres infectionits very difficult to get numb -- even if u want 10 min or 20... but that doesnt seem like the case... seems like she was rushing and whole thing of her talking to her assistant about her personal issues is absolutely absurd!
sorry u had such a horrible exp..

Thank you! Tell me about it! No infection at all. I went in for a routine xray and periodontal cleaning a month ago when they saw I needed the two root canals. In fact I was asked if I was in pain at the time. All this time between root canals and before the first one, I had never been in pain or infection. I go to the dentist every 4 months for routine cleaning.
I think that I went through unnecessary pain due to her hurrying.
