Need help with transitioning off the bottle!!

DD is 13 months old and still has 4 bottles a day. She has her sippy cup throughout the day, but with some water or juice. I tried putting milk in it a few times, but she doesn't like it from the sippy.

Our ped told us not to force her off the bottle yet...that when she's ready, she will give it up. But, I really want to start to make the move.

Any tips to help us along??

Thanks!

I wanted Lucas off the bottle by 13 months...prior to that I took him off all afternoon bottles so that he only had the AM and PM bottle.

He refused milk at first but I would not budge (unfortunately we are both very stubborn...he gets it from his mama!) but within days he gave in...made the time to take away the AM and PM bottles easier in my opinion...or our situation.

It's mind over matter in my opinion...my doctor had prepared me that babies go on milk strikes but they are creature of instinct and eventually give in because they need and want to drink.

Whatever you decide...good luck! Chat Icon

I gave DD milk in a sippy cup at that age...she literally laughed at me and threw it at me...like I was joking!!!

I tried again at 15 months...but this time I used a different type of sippy cup (one ONLY for milk, never water), and she actually took it. That was the end of bottles...

I'm thinking maybe wait another month, then go to the store and let DC pick a sippy cup (I use Playtex) and use that one for milk...good luck!

Re: Need help with transitioning off the bottle!!

At first, my son hated drinking formula/milk out of anything but a bottle. I eliminated all day time bottles and like Ang-Rich said, I just kept giving it to him in a sippy/straw cup. (He was used to drinking water and juice out of the sippy but never milk.) He eventually took to it. Once he was regularly drinking formula/milk out the sippy cup, we went cold turkey on morning and nighttime bottles. It took a day or two for him to adjust but he's been fine ever since!
