Need help with the kitchen in my new apt I ORDERED SOME STUFF! Thanks for your help!
I haven't moved in yet. The kitchen is small. Not much storage. So, I need to get a fairly inexpensive buffet for the right side of the fridge. I'd like to put my everyday kitchenware in that so I can use the cabinets for pots, pans, etc and food. Can you suggest a buffet or something for storage?
Also, the cabinets are older. They aren't wood, I don't think. Maybe they are a pressed board? They are in great shape! But, they'd look a lot nicer if they were all one color. The landlord said I could paint them if I chose to, but nothing too crazy. There is not a lot of cabinet space to being with, no not many cabinets to paint. Can I paint these? How would I do it?
****THIS IS WHAT I GOT**** I got this utility pantry to put next to the fridge (on the other side of fridge in the pic). It will fit perfectly! Got it in white from JCPenny
And I got this hutch to put on the long wall between the fridge and where my kitchen table will be. Also in white.

Check Craigslist for a buffet/hutch/backers rack.

For the cabinets? I'd do either a dark brown/black color or a cream color.
But, my kitchen set is all blues and greens

Check Craigslist for a buffet/hutch/backers rack.
I've been looking on craigs list but haven't found anything.

DS painted our cabinets. I think they are pressed board as well. He sanded them down and then asked at Sherwin Williams what kind of paint would be the best.
As for buffets - JC Penney has a good selection of them on their website.

I can't judge the space from the photo, but if it's tight, you might be better with a baker's rack than a buffet (since they are taller and not as wide, usually). You get the best of both worlds, because usually there is open shelving up top to display nicer items and closed storage (drawers, cabinets) below.

overstock.com has these pine cabinets $170 each:
and a wicker baker's rack:
to hang pots & pans, you can get one of those pot hanging rack things:

Re: Need help with the kitchen in my new apt PIC ADDED
I have a "storage challenged" kitchen as well.
I have this https://www.consumerswarehouse.com/shop/default.aspx?store=furnakit&catcode=FGI&prodID=SU-110799
in our apt. Simple and was inexpensive (80 dollars) but holds a lot. We use it as a food pantry. Yeah, it's not as pretty as some that are out there but really? I'm in an apartment. If I go to a new apartment or house and don't have room for it? I won't be sad breaking up with it, KWIM?
I also have adjustable wall shelving from home depot that I use to store things like my steamer, coffee maker, crock pot etc. In my prior apartment in Mass that had a teensy kitchen I put shelving above the stove to add a little extra storage. I also had my spice rack there. The hanging pot rack posted earlier would probably work well there.
Those cabinets will be tough to paint, you'll have to prep them first and there's no guarantee the paint will stick. in time it may bubble and peel and then the cabinets will be ruined. You may be able to repaint the wood portion to a color and have it come out nice, the wood part should be easier to paint than the white part (I think it's melamine).
You may be better off just painting the walls to detract from the cabinets.

Considering what you bought, which I love everything you got! - what if you put a fresh coat of white paint on the cabinets. Keep it simple and accent with accesories like towels or a nice picture. Or even paint the wall a nice color to make the white pop.

Love what you got! You could hang a pot rack above the stove for some extra space if you still need it.
I think painting the cabinets white is a good idea. Will lighten up the room and make it look clean and fresh.

Well, the landlord just had the walls painted throughout the apartment with White Linen by a contractor. I don't think she'd be too happy if I painted again.

Try these kitchen islands and carts. You might find a vendor that has something you like on this page. Hope this helps
