Need help estimating a clerical job...
How many hours to do a 1000 piece mass mailing from soup to nuts (create mail merge (the database is already created), print the letters and envelopes, stuff (there is a selfaddressed envelope that also needs to be included), seal and mail. Anyone have any clue or where I can start with this?
ETS:
Does this seem reasonable?
Create Letter and Set up Mail Merge 1-2 hours Print Letters and Envelopes 1-2 hours Fold, Stuff, Seal and Post 7-8 hours 9-12 hours estimate for total job

Re: Need help estimating a clerical job...
Doing mail merge and sending letters out was part of my job before I got laid off. In my department people would usually do this part of their job in the afternoons and do between 40-60 an afternoon (4 hours). It of course depended on their typing speed, but that included typing, printing, sorting, folding, printing the envelope label and stuffing!

If its just a letter with the only enclosure an envelope, I would say it would take 4 hours or so. The actual merge is a two minute job. The printing, folding and stuffing is the time consuming part.

If the data can be merged easily setting up the letter and merge is quick maybe 1/2 hour. If you have to reenter or reformat 1000 names and addresses you have a few hours.
Printing depends on the speed of your printer. My old printer would take hours but I dont know how much time can chrage based on equipment.

I don't know the "condition" of the data which is why I estimated the merge to be higher.

What type of printer are you doing this on? Is it a large and high speed? I think the printing will take way longer that 1-2 hours. Envelopes are a pain in the butt!
Also are you pulling the data from an existing spreadsheet or does one need to be created? If the spreadsheet is existing than this should take 1/2 hour tops. If a spreadsheet needs to be created that could take a very long time.

Will be using an HP LaserJet with an envelope feeder and letter tray. Website says it prints 17 ppm but I also plan on stuffing while printing so i figured at there is some time overlap...ugh...this is why it is hard. I do not have to create the spreadsheet. It is already done but I have not seen it and do not know what format it is in.
Yeah, I think the printing estimate is off...
