Need food suggestions for a 9 month old
DS just turned 9 months and still gives me problems with solids. He'll occasionally eat oatmeal and sweet potatoes. He'll eat some mushed banana off a fork but he seems to like things he can feed himself the best. He'll eat mum mums (or really get it in his mouth and let it disolve) and he ate a ritz cracker the other day (sucked on it until it was soft). Any suggestions on what I can feed him?

If he likes to feed himself then I would try giving him little pieces of what you eat. Ex: very small cubes of grilled chicken, soft & small pieces of veggies, blueberries cut into fours, banana cut not mashed.

Agreed. Try steamed carrots, broccoli, or squash cut into small pieces. I defrost frozen peas in a little water in the microwave and DD has always loved them. Cubed banana, blueberries, or mango. Cheerios, puffs, toast, crackers, pasta or rice, and meat are good too.

9 months is still early for table food for some kids. My DS loved snack table food but would not eat meals yet. We wouldn't really eat what we were eating until 12 months.
He stayedwith baby food til then.

Avocado Kiwi Squash was a huge hit with my dd from the beginning Puffs Cut spaghetti with a lil olive oil Steamed carrots Cooked apples or pears Or what about the food pouches? My dd loves feeding herself with those. My dd didnt start to be really interested or enjoy table food until 12 months.

We got the ok to try eggs at 9 mo so I'm going to try that this weekend and some pancakes. They are getting into feeding themselves now, but we have only tried baby snacks so far.

I would be fine holding off on table food but he won't eat purees and I feel like everyone posts how much their kids are eating. If it's somewhat early to start table food is there something else I can give him besides purees? I plan on trying some of the things suggested too.

How about pastina? My ped gave the ok for that at 9 months. I would boil it in some chicken broth and steamed carrots, DS loved it. At 9 months DS was also eating yogurt, cheese, and eggs. String cheese was always a big hit. You can cut it up in little pieces at give it to your LO.
Don't feel like your behind with food, you're doing fine! Just keep experimenting and sooner than later your baby will be eating lots more !

My ped ok'd yogurt so I give dd some Greek yogurt and she loves it. She also likes avocado, hummus, puffs, small pieces of bread or pancakes, and the other night we were eating stuffed shells and I gave her some of the ricotta filling and she loved it. If your DS likes sweet potatoes he might also like puréed carrots or squash.

Re: Need food suggestions for a 9 month old
My 9 month old eats almost anything that is small enough for her to pick up and shove in her mouth. She's had (small pieces of) pizza, pancakes, grilled chicken, avocado, peaches, cheese, bread, watermelon, sweet potato, waffles w/ applesauce, pear, muffin, grilled cheese, banana, blueberries, and probably more that I can't think of off the top of my head. I still have to try pasta (which I'm sure she'll inhale).
