Need babysitting help

OK- what would you do.

DH has been working on a restaurant for the past 6 weeks. The restaurant is having their grand opening and we are invited. I don't know what time, but I assume around 8. I don't have a babysitter. Jordana is a really easy baby and its so easy to put her to bed. She usually goes to bed between 7:30 and 8:30.

The woman I asked at the daycare is unavailable. My sister's babysitter is working for her. My mom is unavailable.

SO here are my options:

1. Ask a friend. I have a single gf who has offered generally- but I feel bad asking a single girl to sit home on a Sat. night. Her sister (who I have known for years) is pregnant and lives a block away and she has told me her sister would love to babysit. But still- a Sat. night for about 3-4 hours. I think it may be too much.

2. Ask someone else at the daycare. There is no one there I like as much as the one I asked, but there are 3 other teachers in her room.

3. Ask my sister's babysitter (who will be Jordana's nanny) for a referral.

4. Stay home.

I REALLY don't want to do #4. What would you do?

Re: Need babysitting help

The only people I've ever used to babysit Alex are either my close friends, who I know and trust, or Alex's teachers at daycare. I always feel bad asking friends though so I usually have Alex's teachers babysit - it usually works better because Alex is more comfortable with them as she spends so much time with them, and they know all the tricks to use if she gets upset or has trouble falling asleep because they spend so much time with her... definitely use one or the other - you'll regret it if you don't go!

Re: Need babysitting help

I would ask a friend, especially since you can just put her to bed and most likely she won't wake up and they just have to sit there and watch TV.

I'd ask your friend.

I don't know about anyone else but, when I was single my Sat nights didn't start until 11!

I would ask the friend, but do it asap. At least this gives a few more days to line someone else up.

You could always drop her in LI - looks like I'll be home for the next 3 Saturdays. DH is starting up with band practice again.Chat Icon

Re: Need babysitting help

Im not sure if this is your DH's restaurant opening or if its a formal opening that you guys were invited to,bc if it isnt -i know no one else suggested this-
and maybe im crazy, my first thought would be-why dont you take her with you...
If shes an easy baby, bring her pjs and let her sleep in the stroller....one night wont hurt, that's what Id probably do, if appropriate-bc I wouldnt want to stay home!

Re: Need babysitting help

I'd agree with the other ladies, your single friend wouldn't mind watching her for one night for a few hours. Especially if she offers. And like Moehick said, she can ask her sister to come over to keep her company since she lives around the corner. Go and have fun!

I would ask your friend. She offered so why not take her up. If she has plans she'll say so but I'm sure she won't mind.

Re: Need babysitting help

I would ask the friend who already offered. 3-4 hours one Saturday night should not be a biggie for her. I am sure she would want to do it for you so YOU can enjoy your Saturday too. Go for it and have fun!

I would ask your sisters babysitter to watch Jordana also. Can you bring her to your sisters house. If the baby is going to be asleep anyway she shouldnt be too much trouble.

I know it wasnt one of the siuggestions, but I would try that first. Then I would ask the friend, if she doesnt want to do it she will probably offer her sister.

Re: Need babysitting help

Thanks girls! I asked my friend. She says she may have a date (with a guy I set her up with Chat Icon ) but she'll find out today or tomorrow. If not I will ask people at the daycare.

I can't have my sister's babysit watch them both because right now my sister lives in a studio (she moves on Monday). My neice is such a light sleeper and Jordana tends to wake up around 10 and needs to be fed. Last time my sister watched them both my neice got so freaked out by Jordana's crying, that she couldn't go back to sleep.
