Need answers quick!
Has anyone's child ever gotten a cough from the cool mist humidifier?
I had to wake Megan this morning because she was all congested in her chest and was coughing in her sleep. I am trying to keep her upright so it doesnt settle in her chest.
Just now she threw up a bit of plegm...my dh and I are also coughing a lot..I am thinking its because we had the humidifier on too long???
Is this possible? What should I do for her??? Should I call the doc?
It seems now to not sound as "loose" since she threw up the phlegm. I am really thinking she has water in there from the humidifier.

Re: Need answers quick!
I used a cool mist humidifier and still do everyday during the winter last year and this year for about 4 months at least at a time everynight. I never got a cough.
It stopped congestion and bloody noses for me while pg.
Maybe you guys are getting sick?

Re: Need answers quick!
I dont think that would happen from a humidifier. Unless perhaps the filter needs to be changed, mie gets moldy quickly

awww i never heard about the humidifier doing that...but you never know...i would call the dr..not to scare you but my sil's child just tested positive for RSV..and they were preemies..just a mild case..but if it is in the chest and not the nose...DEF call the dr...telll them the symptoms and the could prob tell you over the phone if it is a cold or rsv...good luck.

aww, dont have much advice, but I can say one thing my docs told us to do when they were congested like that was to water down their bottles. but they may have been older, so doublecheck that with your dr.
i hope she feels better soon!

Re: Need answers quick!
actually the moisture helps them get the phlegm out so it's good that she's coughing it up (rather than it settling in her chest). I don't think the humidifier would cause a cough. Ryan is getting over RSV and at it's worst he could not sleep at all because of the coughing. It started as upper respiratory (more in the nose/throat) and they told me it was just a cold. Eventually it got worse and his chest was full of mucous. Just something to look out for - I hope it's nothing and goes away soon!!!

Ok...Shes not coughing at all anymore. She sounds more nasally than anything else at this point. She spit up a bit and it got all loose after that. Do you think its ok if I lay her down again? Shes so sleepy because I woke her up out of a sound sleep.

Re: Need answers quick!
There's a bad cough going around. DH had it last week, Andy has it this week. We called the doctor on Saturday and they put him on Infant's Pedicare.

I agree that it is good that she is coughing up the phlegm. Most babies dont cough it up so it stays and causes them to cough and be raspy.
