Need advice * UPDATE
I had signed on to work at a camp with my dd this summer so she could go for free. I am 26 weeks pregnant right now and am starting to feel tired and have all the pressure in y lower region. I am starting to second guess my decision to work. I would have to pull dd from the camp but I just don't see how I am going to work all the way till 38 weeks at a day camp from 9-4. I am so upset about this. What would you do?
** UPDATE Thank you so much ladies. I called the camp and told him it was just not possible for me to work this summer. They made me give them a drs note to not work. Which was a little crazy i thought

Re: Need advice
I worked at a camp last year when I wasn't pregnant, and it was a lot of work and very exhausting because you're outside in the heat etc... I wasn't a counslor either, so I wasn't constantly chasing kids around or whatever, and i still think it was a lot of work. I was asked back for the same position this year, but I had to decline because I thought I would be crazy to try and do it preggo. I'm 25 weeks now, so pretty much the same as you. IMO I coudn't do it, but I don't have another child either. goodluck!!

Re: Need advice
I'm just a little further along than you and I would definitely not be able to do it, but if I had to I would. Like a previous poster said can you see if you can try it out?
Also it seems as though if your asking this you are probably doubting yourself and that I'm sure doesn't help. Just remember after the long day on your feet, you'll still have to take care of your DD needs. If you can afford the camp without working then I wouldn't work.

Re: Need advice
Every summer I work at a 6 week program for children with special needs. It's a very active, physical job. I'll be 20w when it starts. I had planned on working but then recently made the decision to relax this summer. It's more important to myself and my DH that I relax rather than overdo it.
Is there anything else you can sign your DD up for? I know the Town of Hempstead has tons of free programs (swim lessons, arts & crafts, cheerleading, etc). Not sure where you live but maybe you can find similiar programs in your town?

Re: Need advice
With DC#2 I waitressed all the way up til 36 weeks, but there is no way I could see myself being able to do that this time around. That said, if you don't feel like you can do it don't, not worth it! I may see how long I could last if it were me.

Re: Need advice
Tough one. I've worked in camps for years, and it's knocked me out when I wasn't pregnant. Couldn't imagine doing it this summer. Can you talk to the camp's admin? Let them know that you really want to work there, but for health reasons you may have to leave mid-summer. This way they've got some notice that they may need to replace you.

Re: Need advice
I usually work a summer program every year, and as much as I do enjoy it, it is exhausting and physically demanding. I can't imagine doing it whle pregnant, and I'm relieved not to be doing it this year.
I work with preschool aged children, and children with special needs, however. What age group would you be responsible for? If they are older, more independent children, it might not be so bad. How is the program run? Would you be involved in all activities, or is it possible that you could request to work quieter activities like say arts & crafts? How well-staffed is the program? If there is a low ratio of kids to adults, it might be doable.
I'd bring up your concerns to the director and see what s/he suggests. S/he will be very happy to have such a conscientious future employee, and can work to find you a suitable position.
Ultimately you have to do what is best for your health, bc that is most important for you, the baby, and your DD. Good luck with your decision!

Re: Need advice
I used to work as a camp counselor and remember coming home beat. We spent most of the day outdoors, and on trips. Honestly, I don't think I would be able to do that pregnant.

Re: Need advice
I've worked in summer camps when MUCH younger and can tell you it was a lot of work. I would come home exhausted. I can't imagine being pregnant and working a camp.
