Need Advice: RE death of classroom aid

I just learned today that the 2nd grade classroom aid passed away suddenly. She was the sister of our babysitter since my kids were 3 yrs old. They were close to her and she to them.

Do I tell them tonight that she died? Or do I wait until tomorrow when they learn with the rest of their classmates?

I think I would tell them tonight, it might be easier on them if they hear it from you first. I'd be nervous about how they will react finding out in school. At least if you tell them you'll be able to answer any questions they might have. So sorry for your loss. Chat Icon

I would discuss first at home. I'm sure they will also have grief counselors in the classroom tomorrow to speak and work with the kids. Better to hear it home first though. Chat Icon
