Need Advice from the experts

Hello mommies
I'm currently trying to do the registry...and I'm just thinking do we really need all those gadgets? I have a small house and don't know if we can fit everything. Between the jumparoo, swing. bouncy seat, play mat and a walker....what do I really need? What did or do your infants...can't live without? Thanks in advance for the advice!Chat Icon

You need a lot, look for stuff that folds upChat Icon

What we use/used:
Bouncer
Bassinett
Pack and Play with bassinett and changing table (esp the changing table)
Swing
Boppy
Newborn to Toddler Rocker
Bounce Bounce Baby (a smaller exersaucer/jumperoo thing)
Crib
Glider
Bebe Pod

We knew we had to move when DS was a newborn, and we didn't know where we were going, so I tried not to get too much, so we haven't gotten a high chair yet and I got stuff after DS was born with giftcards, second hand (Chat Icon ) or through our very own buy/sell/swap thread.

IMO - You need the bouncy seat, swing and excersaucer. Not everyone is a fan of the walker, but I liked it when Emma could follow me around the house. Not necessary to have, but fun. Same goes for the jumperoo.

Re: Need Advice from the experts

The only thing we used a lot was the bouncer!! DD hated the swing, I never used an exersaucer and never used a PNP .

I would get a play mat as they need their tummy time so bouncer and playmat and you are good to goChat Icon

pack & play
swing
bouncer
bumbo
exersaucer
jumperoo

We didn't have everything out at once. We have the jumperoo, exersaucer and Pnp out now and the rest put away bc he's over them...so don't think of it as all of this stuff at once and you can fold up or put away what you're not using!

Re: Need Advice from the experts

we don't have a lot of room & got the most use out of the:

bouncy seat
swing
exersaucer
DD hated the play mat and anyway- you can always put down a blanket w/ a bunch of toys- it's the same thing.
DD didn't have a walker and anyway, it doesn't help them learn how to walk any faster anyway.

Re: Need Advice from the experts

I think it's overwhelming to get SO MUCH stuff at once, especially when you dont need it all right away.

if you DONT have storage space, and this stuff will be sitting around until it's needed, then here's my take.

You wont need an exersaucer till 4-5m, and thats a HUGE box Chat Icon
carseat, plEAST dont get the toddler carseat Chat Icon I dont know why people get this on their registry when you dont need it for at least 8-10m,
some people even put potty seats in their registry Chat Icon
so just think of every item sitting in your house, hopefully this will make you decide what's most important Chat Icon

Again, if space is a big issue, you dont really need a bassinet, you can put baby right into the crib if your room is close by. I know many have done this.

swing- just get one, maybe the travel one, so you can move it around the house easily and you can also take it along. most babies love the take along swing best.

also - things that are not a must if space is an issue, glider/ottoman, changng table., etc.

I moved my changing table to a central area in the house and use it a million times more than when it was in the baby's room. Ialmost never used it when it was in his room. so think about where you place things too to make the best use of your space.

thats all I can think of

Re: Need Advice from the experts

If space is an issue-skip the jumperoo for right now since they can't use it until 4 months. Ours is currently at my parents house b/c the box was huge and we didn't have any room for it. In my opinion the swing is an absolute must. It has come in handy more times than I can count.

i agree to skip the jumperoo,
i found the swing, rocker, floor mat and pack and play are def YES. We live in a condo and also don't have a lot of space but those are the main items DS loves. I also have an exersausor (sorry about spelling), but DS is to young for it yet so its still in the box.

Re: Need Advice from the experts

All we used or needed has been the bouncy seat and playmat. DS hates the swing, and the jumperoo and walker aren't necessary in my opinion.

Re: Need Advice from the experts

I have a small place. I bought a travel size swing, but she never really took to it so it got very little use. I was holding her most of the day in the beginning anyway. She used the bouncy seat and now uses the exersaucer a lot. Also the bumbo seat is great. I bought a high chair only because I got it at 75% off, but you could get away with using the bumbo with a tray or even one of the booster type seats that recline and sit on top of the regular chair.

I would skip the bassinet and just use the crib or get a little co-sleeper that goes in the bed with you (Arms Reach is a good one).

Like someone else said, make sure the stuff you get folds up! Even my tub folded in half, but sadly she has grown out of that one.

she took the words right out of my mouth!!! well said...

My DD never took to the swing, but if you wanted one, just get a travel size - it folds compactly. If you dont have room for a high chair, the safety first booster reclines for newborns!
