Need advice for 3yo BMs
Hi all...
My 3 year old son will be 4 in July. He has been potty trained for peeing a long time. We are having difficulty with BMs.
He will still try to hide when he needs to go and I am constantly washing poop from his underwear. Here's the thing, when he poops it doesn't all come out in one shot. It's like small ones throughout the day. And it's always very soft so toilet paper just sticks to it and I need to use baby wipes.
DS is a picky eater when it comes to veggies so I try to hide them in smoothies. He loves high fiber fruits and even tries Fiber One bars on occasion.
It's not really a constipation problem though since it's not coming out hard and dry. But what can you suggest to get it all out at once?
I know that he hates the feeling of pushing it out so we have to sit and comfort him. There were a few times it did come out at once and woah lol. Would fiber gummies help? Or should I add that odorless/tasteless stuff to his drinks? Thinking about just calling pediatrician but was curious to know if anyone else dealt with this. Thanks.

130 people read the post and not one of your children had a poop problem? Really?

I don't know the answer, but I would try the fiber gummies. My friend uses them for her daughter (she's 4). She has a hard time pooping sometimes (and my friend wasn't desperate enough to to try the miralax route). She said it has helped her daughter become more regular and not try as hard to push the poop out. Of course she thinks it might be more mental, because they call it her poop medicine when she takes the gummy daily But her daughter knows this is to help her and of course she likes the gummy.

I've never heard of a kid doing that but I know miralax helped my little guy get rid of everything that wasn't coming out on its own

DD has little ball poops when she's constipated. I just change diet (spinach, greens, high fiber things & cut down on milk). She's picky with food too at this stage, but we give her no choice. That may or may not be your issue.

When dd was in diapers she would often go a few times a day. I never thought of it as a problem. Once she potty trained she started going once a day consistently. Easier said than done with many kids but maybe getting him to go on the potty would help with him too.

my 3 year old doesn't like to poop on the potty. what has helped for him, we give him prune juice every day and have him sit on the little potty. the big potty was a disaster for him. I am considering probiotics. he does eat yogurt every day, high fiber fruits and some veggies but I don't think it's enough. does your son drink enough fluids? you could try upping his water intake. he needs to empty his bowels as much as possible, otherwise he will get constipated.
