Need advice about prescription...

I went to see a ENT on Friday. Since getting PG, I have been constantly stuffy (but feel fine) and my ears have been bothering me (slightly painful at times & an itchy feeling).

He prescribed me ACETASOL ear drops. It has hydrocortisone and acetic acid. I am paranoid and haven't filled the prescription. The pain isn't that bad on certain days so I am trying to do without the drops.

Anyone familiar with this prescription? Any thought - thanks Chat Icon

Just call your OB this morning and ask if it's ok to take. If it is then take it. Chat Icon

Re: Need advice about prescription...

I looked it up online, and it says "Acetasol should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor." and "Pregnancy: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of the use of this medication by pregnant women. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while taking this medication, contact your doctor immediately."

I'd check with your OB, but they'll probably advise you to take it if the pain is really bothersome. Personally I'd avoid taking it unless you really can't stand it.

regardless of what you find online, you should ALWAYS call your OB about medication. Just because one site says you shouldn't use it does not mean that your doctor doesn't have specific studies or alternates that you CAN use. I had a cold sore last week, everything i found said Abreva wasn't tested, etc....i called the OB nurse and she said it's 100% fine and even gave me a few other things to try as well.

I agree!

I broke my foot when I was 15 weeks pregnant. The Dr. in the ER gave me a prescription for a pain killer that he assured me up and down was safe to take during pregnancy. When I called my OBs office the next day to let them know what happened and what the Dr. prescribed me. The nurse couldn't believe that he said it was okay to take while pregnant, when it most definately wasn't! Always, check with your OB's office if you have questions about medications!
