Need advice about DS and fevers and being sick. WWYD? (LONG)
Since November DS has been sick. At first I associated it with starting nursery school and being he was not a daycare kid he is now being exposed to new germs. Now I am getting worried.
We have taken DS to an ENT and is supposed to get his tonsils and adenoids removed. Unfortunately each time we have scheduled his surgery, he has been sick so we have had to postpone. DS has had tonsilits and ear infections 5 times since December (starting right before Christmas) so basically 5 x's in the last 3 1/2 months.
Here is my dilemma and why I am worrying. In addition to the chronic ear infections and tonsilitis, he has had almost continuous fevers for the past 3 weeks associated with different things.
1) about 3 or 4 weeks ago DS and I both had a 24 hour stomach bug with fever and vomiting. That was Sunday and Monday. That Friday we went to the ped. for his pre-op appt. for tonsil surgery the following Monday and he would not clear him b/c DS had a cough and ear infection.
2) So a few days after the stomach bug he developed another ear infection and was was on antibiotics for 10 days.
3) 2 days after coming off antibiotics DS came down with a fever. At one point it went up to 105.7 and we ended up at the hospital. He had a fever for 5 days with no explanation or symptoms. The fever was gone all day Thursday and Friday.
4) Friday night he came down with another fever. Brought him to PM Pediatrics and it was a double ear infection.
5) Now he is on antibiotics and his fever was gone Sunday and Monday and this afternoon he had a slight fever of 100.4.
I am really starting to think something is wrong with him or his immune system. I am taking him to the ped. today and I know he is going to do a blood work up.
What worries me is one of my cousins had unexplainable, high fever continuously through childhood and now as an adult. She practically lives on prednisone and has been to many childrens hospitals and seen numerous rheumatologist and infectious disease doctors. They cannot diagnose her...all they come up with is possible juvenile rheumatoic arthritis or mediterranean fever syndrome. What DS has been doing is exactly how my cousins "disease" started.
I dont know if I should pull him out of nursery school and keep him away from kids for a few weeks to see what happens or if I should wait for blood work results or take him to a rheumatologist incase. I dont know if I"m overreacting. I am wondering if this will all end once his tonsils and adenoids are out.
I am at a loss. I am terrified he is developing what my cousin has. What is odd is he is not contagious. I have a 6 mo. at home that hasn't picked up anything more than a cold from DS. I just feel like something is not right.
ETA: And as most know, I can be overly anxious and a hypochondriac so if you think i am being nutty, you can tell me I wont be offended. I hear it all the time That's why I'm asking because I am wondering what you would think if this was your little ones.

I think you should get the blood workup from your ped, just to get the peace of mind. I have no advice, but I hope you find some answers soon! I know its easier said than done, but try to take it one day at a time and try not to worry about what your cousin has.

the reason I worry about what my cousin has is because no matter what doctor my aunt brought her to they always said it HAS to be something hereditary. My poor cousin practically lived in Schneiders Childrens Hospital because of these fever episodes. My grandparents tried to think back and they could never come up with anyone else in our family who had anything like this.

Believe me, I would be worried too. I wasn't trying to minimize your feelings at all, I hope it didn't come across that way. I really hope everything turns out ok with him!!!

I would probably be freaking out too! So I don't think you're crazy...however a fever is the body's way of fighting infection...so you could be on to something thinking there is an issue with his immune system. I might even see an immunologist and see what they have to say.
How does he eat? Does he eat veggies, fruit etc...are you feeding him organic foods? I know nowadays so many kids have issues with their immune systems because there is so much toxicity in everything and their immune system gets overloaded taking care of that and is less able to fight infection. Good luck

Well, don't keep too far away from kids
I think you should see what happens with the bloodwork. But I do think that no matter WHEN they start daycare/school, this happens, so if not now, then when he started kindergarten
Even my mom said the first year she was teaching she was sick ALL THE TIME (and she was in college before that!)
ETA-I have a medical condition that is "hereditary" and no one in my family has it either, so hopefully what TJ is experiencing isn't what your cousin has

Unfortunately he is not the best eater. He will eat fruit but not veggies.
I just got back from my pediatrician. I was worried he was not responding to the antibiotic because he has been on them so much. But his tonsils look ok and his ears are clearing up. Both the ENT and my ped think he will be a totally different kid once the tonsils and adenoids come out. I called the ENT today to reschedule surgery for possibly next week since we will hopefully have a window of opportunity being he will just be coming off antibiotics.
My ped. said if his fever goes up to 102 tonight he will send us for a full blood work up. If not, he said get the surgery and if he continues to get sick and get fevers after the tonsils and adenoids are out then he is definetely going to send me to specialists.

I'm afriad people are going to start thinking my kid has the plague or something What he gets (ear infections, tonsillitis and infected adenoids) isn't really contagious anyway.
