Need advice
So as some of you may remember I had abnormal results from NT scan then has maternit21 test done that came back negative. At 15 weeks we went for follow up at NSUH and the doc there said everything looked good and he didn't even see the markers anymore. Well I went for appt with my OB (well one of the docs in practice, not who I usually see) and she said my numbers were really low and she suggested getting the amnio bc she doesn't know if she would trust results of maternity21 since it is such a new test. So needless to say I left the office in tears and now I don't know what to do. I have my 20 week sono on Monday and she suggested scheduling the amnio then. The topper was that we didn't have a sitter and at the last minute I had to bring my 15mth old today,it was a very stressful appt!! Please give me advice!

Can you get a second opinion from another OB in your office? If not, I guess I would do the amnio. Good luck and hope everything is ok.

Re: Need advice
I had testing come back at 16 weeks that DS had Trisomy 18. What I did was, had the 20 week sono, and the technician and doctors all ruled it out because there were no markers.
So, my advice to you is, have the 20 week sono, see what that gives you. If there are doubts at that point, then have the amnio. But I personally wouldn't schedule the amnio until the results are back from the 20 week sono unless I needed it.
Good luck!

Thanks! That's what I was thinking too, they should be able to tell more at that point

Yes, that sono is so detailed. And it still gives you enough time to have a safe amnio if needed.

I agree with this. Go to your 20 week sono, and if they see anything then maybe look into an amnio. But they can probably rule alot out at the anatomy scan. Im sorry your going through such a stressful time. Im sure everything will be fine.

Was just about to type this. At the Level II (20w) sono they look at everything and measure everything. If there were issues it wld be picked up then. Relax, breath and wait on that Amnio. Good Luck and Im sure it will all work out for you and your baby.

I wouldn't get the amnio before the results of the 20 week sono. I'm not saying this is what's happening to you - but I felt that my OB was pushing to get paid for the amnio and got pissed when I chose to go elsewhere to get the maternit21 test. I changed doctors after that.

Re: Need advice
I'm sorry that you are goign through all of this uncertainty. The only thing I wanted to add is that I have heard from other preg friends that not all OB's are that trusting of the Maternity21 test yet, exactly bc it is so new and still relatively unproven in the general population (vs their own studies). So, I can see why maybe this OB is suggesting the amnio.

Re: Need advice
What exactly do they mean by "numbers are low?". Just wondering, I wasn't sure.
I know the materniT21 test is newer but from what I know about it, it's supposed to be pretty accurate...I know its easier said than done to not worry, but I agree with the others..just go to your 20 week and see what happens. I bet everything is fine. Hugs to you!!

The number they get from the results of the NT scan coupled with the results of the AFP test showed a 1 in 53 chance of downs.

Gotcha. I honestly have done so much research on MaterniT21 and I feel like the results overall have been proven very accurate. Like anything else in the world there is always a slim margin of error, but the accuracy rates are almost as high as an amnio. And 1 in 53 isn't even terrible! I know women with 1 in 8 that had negative results...Not trying to discount your worry, but I wouldn't be too worried.

Just try to have faith that it'll be ok. That is all you can do until you know more. Best of luck with everything!!! I'm sure you'll be breathing a huge sigh of relief soon!!

Re: Need advice
I agree! I would ask to speak to the normal dr. you see. I would also get the amino if thats what that dr. says to do.
