Re: Nebulizer! Any tricks for getting DS to cooperate?

DS has the one panda bear base/motor and we let him take turns, he wears it and then he gives some to the panda. Otherwise, and I know its terrible, but he HATES to share with my SILs son, so we tell him that we are going to bring it to his cousins house and let his cousin have a turn. He wont hear of it, so he does it just so he doesnt have to share it.

If all else fails, we do it when he is sleeping. The motor is SO loud, but so far has not woken him up.

we have a teddy bear that dispenses the medicine - ds holds the teddybear close to his face.

they gave it to us in the ambulance last year when we winded up going to the er for ds.

u can check pharmacys and see if they carry something similar.

eta: the teddy bear was brand new and i asked if we could keep it .. they dont reuse them so they said they either throw them out or give it to us

Re: Nebulizer! Any tricks for getting DS to cooperate?

We put DD in her high chair or we put a video in that she really likes and sometimes she wants to hold it. But it's a fight if she isn't in her high chair.

DS is 8 now so he takes it just fine but when he was little we would either put him in front of the tv or give him a coloring book.

Re: Nebulizer! Any tricks for getting DS to cooperate?

If TV or book or story does not work, just do it when DC is sleeping.

DS was horrendous with doing it as a toddler. He now tolerates itat 3.5 yo but for the longest time we could only do it when he was sleeping.

Our pediatric pulmonologist told us it was fine.

Re: Nebulizer! Any tricks for getting DS to cooperate?

We used the high chair. My ds liked to sing so we would pretend it was a microphone. He's now 4 and we just had to do a treatment today and it's sooo much easier. Good luck.

This is what I do as well, I also don't use the strap on the mask, I just hold it on his face.

Re: Nebulizer! Any tricks for getting DS to cooperate?

We usually have one of his favorite DVD's or TV shows on to distract him. If DH is home, one of us will hold him while the other reads him a book (DS LOOOOOVES books). Basically, anything that can keep his mind off of the fact he's getting a neb treatment. HTH.

He doesn't use the mask. We called it the "Magic Mist" and my DH and I try to make it fun the times we have to do this. You can also do this while he's sleeping as the others had said. Sometimes doing that is a little easier because they're not moving around. If I were you, I'd just wait until he's under a deep sleep to do it.
