NB suddenly crying during bottle feeding
My DS is almost 4 weeks old and for the past day and a half he has been crying during his feelings. He will drink the first ounce like normal and then will suddenly start crying. He is obviously still hungry but it takes such a long time to feed him not because after he drinks for a few seconds, he starts fussing again. Its not an urgent cry (if that makes sense) so it seems like he may be uncomfortable, but not in extreme pain. He burps like a pro and I haven't changed his formula or bottles since he was born. Could this be a reflux/formula issue? We have a drs appointment tomorrow so I will ask then but I just wanted to see if anyone on here had a similar experience. Thanks!!

Re: NB suddenly crying during bottle feeding
Could be reflux issue, but sometimes with a simple change of the formula it will work and in more extreme cases, it calls for med's.
My DS had the same thing so I feel your pain.
It's something he grew out of by 4 months, but until he was on the right meds and formula it was ROUGH!! It used to take him 45 min to an hour to get down a few oz of formula. Once we put him in Nutramigen and Prevacid he was a 100% different baby.
Just try to hang in there

Re: NB suddenly crying during bottle feeding
Sounds like a reflux prob. Around that age DS had "silent" reflux.. where he didn't spit up or anything but would arch his back and cry during feedings. Gripe Water was really the only thing that worked for us. We didn't need to try medication because by 3 months old it was pretty much gone.

Call your dr. My DD did this and nothing worked until we started zantac and mylanta together. She is 6 months and we just weanted her off it and so far so good but it was rough in the beginning.

Could also be a sign that he is looking for either a faster )or slower) flowing nipple...
My DS suddenly got very aggitated during feeedings and I went up a flow and he was all better....
DS2 and DD stayed on slow flow the whole time

Re: NB suddenly crying during bottle feeding
at 4 weeks my guess is gas/upset tummy. my baby was fine with feedings until 4 weekish but then the gas/tummy pain started and now at 3.5 months he is finally better with that but a few weeks ago I got the similar reaction and it turned out he wanted the next flow nipple and was getting frustrated with feedings because it was too slow.
edited to add - he was on neosure (premie) but when the gas pain came we tried enfamil gentlease which did not work for us so then tried similac sensitive which helped a lot and he is still on that. my dr wanted him to go straight to nutramigen but I felt that was an extreme switch and similac sensitive worked - glad i tried it first.

Re: NB suddenly crying during bottle feeding
When DS starts fussing during a feeding, it usually means he needs to be burped.

Re: NB suddenly crying during bottle feeding
i had the same issues with breastmilk and it could be gas, reflux or flow issues or a mix of each!

Re: NB suddenly crying during bottle feeding
Thank you all for your responses! I spoke to the Dr and we are trying a new formula for now. Hoping it resolves itself soon because I feel so bad seeing him so frustrated/uncomfortable.
