Naps: How Do You Convince a Reluctant Napper to Take One?
Okay, I'm out of tricks, and I just can't do CIO yet, so I'm looking for some new ones.
How do you get a 5 month old to nap when he doesn't want to do this? The swaddle used to work, or his white noise machine. No more. Neither does his aquarium, simulating the nighttime sleep experience (he sleeps well then), rocking, singing, walking through the house, or giving him his favorite stuffed animal. He won't take a pacifier, and won't suck on his thumb (this also helps him at night). The only things that usually do work are going for a drive or a walk.
Please share any suggestions you may have, and TIA!

It seems you have already tried lots of things that I would have suggested. The only other thing that I can think of is make sure you get the baby lots of fresh air. Do you have the jumparoo? Maybe if he spends some time in that he'd get wiped out. Keep him active but then wind down about a half hour before nap time. You could also try and ounce of warm chamomile tea--that's very calming.

Thank you! He does get chamomile tea from time to time, we started using it when he was colicky. But he does seem to sleep more when we go out and do things, the day we have his playgroup he is usually zonked.
Yesterday we took a walk, but that was about it. I don't have a jumperoo, but I can put him on the floor to play and roll around.

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time with napping. I've been there too. I used to resort to the car ride often. I would drive to the beach with a book and just park & relax in the car while DD slept. It's not the best scenario but it's much better than having an over-tired infant.

have you tried pushing him in the stroller and let him sleep in it. Works sometimes for me and my friends son only naps in his stroller.

Since I can remember, DS will ONLY nap in his stroller...we have to rock him to sleep. Very rarely will he fall asleep on his own. Now in the evening on the other hand, he goes straight to his crib and falls asleep on his own.
