Naples Florida
I'm going in April and flying into Fort Myers. Is it necessary to rent a car or is their transportation at the airport? Its just me and my kids for 4 days/nights so I don't really see us venturing out of the resort (staying at Naples Grande.) We're generally pretty lazy vacationers

There are cabs at airport... But we rented a car.
Naples is very spread out & I found it necessary to drive (but we went to restaurants, zoo, gardens, downtown, pirate cruise, etc)

If you are planning on just staying at the resort you can probably do without a car, and get a cab or car service at the airport. The waterside shops are within walking distance of the Naples Grande. It has saks and nordstrom and some nice restaurants. I am like you- I like to stay put at the beach/pool. But if it rains you may be looking to leave the resort, and there isn't much else nearby.

My parents have a house in Naples, not right downtown so we have to rent a car. I honestly could not imagine being down there without a car!
