How about try posting an ad in the pennysaver or observer for "nanny wanted" and start interview people that call to inquire.

call nanny USA..(i think the # is 1800nannyUSA) they also have a website.i know they screen their nannys and do a background check. They also have nannys for all different positions and hours your looking for. There is also alot of websites for nannys i was hired as a nanny over the summer by posting my profile on a website... you can look up the profile of different people. Also, get a nanny cam too! good to have.

My friend posted on craiglist - but ran background checks on everyone.
My best recommendation for a nanny was to my roommate from college who stole a pre-school teacher for my daycare. They are both thrilled with the situation.

We live in Great Neck. I am walkable from the Little Neck train stop or the M16 bus that runs on Northern blvd.
