Nanny help

DH and I (well, really me!) have just decided that instead of day care, we might want to get a nanny. We are in Northern NJ so I am not asking for referrals (unless you have one,of course!!).

How did you find yours?
What type of referrals did you get?
Did you do a background check
What does she do all day?
What are the hours?
How much do you pay?
What were you looking for when you hired her? What kind of questions did you ask?
Does she drive your child? Take him/her/them to mommy and me classes?
Did you spend time with her before going back to work?

I am going back to work in January and I am so torn as to what to do. I know all the pros and cons about both day care and a nanny and I think the pros of a nanny are outweighing the pros of day care.
