my turn for the sleep thing

soooo heres my dilema. Since the xmas holiday, the boys schedules have gotten alllllll messed up.

we used to go down for a nap between 12 and 1 sleep till 3 or 4. go to bed by 8-9pm not get up till 7-8am. (joseph will wake up but just to peepee potty)

welll now we wont go to sleep till 3 and we sleep till 530 6. WONT go to sleep until 10-11pm if not later. STILL up at 7am.

I have tried to not let them sleep at all and put them down at 8 but by the time 4-5pm comes around they are sooooo unbearable (remember ladies this is x2) and at this point there sooooo overtired that they still wont go to sleep till 10pm.

now if anyone know me we DO NOT sit home. i have the boys out doing something constantly and they go to school 3x a week for 3 hours. so i def tire them out. this last we have been home a lil more to see if that would work but nada! help me!!!!

btw. they are a lil over 2 1/2 they be 3 in april.

Re: my turn for the sleep thing

A- when Jack goes down late for a nap, at say 3, I will only let him sleep for 1 hour and wake him up by 4. He'll be cranky and tired still but he'll be ready for bed by 8. That's usually how I try to get him back on schedule.

Also, is it possible that they're over-stimulated "doing something constantly"? Maybe give them some down time to just hang out at home until they're back on track?

just an idea.

How come they are napping at 3 now? Do they have school into the afternoon? Have you tried putting them down earlier for a nap and they just don't fall asleep?

Re: my turn for the sleep thing

Maybe the boys are ready to give up their naps?

I know my kids were done napping at that age.

Just a thought. Hugs - hope it gets better Chat Icon

I hate to say it but I agree. My DD absolutely refuses to nap at home but has no problem sleeping 2 1/2 hours at daycare. And yes, she is a monster by 6:30 p.m. when she does not nap.

Can you just leave them on this schedule? I know it's hard to get anything done when they go to bed late, and when you are relying on a nap while they nap, but sooner or later they will enter a different phase and change their natural schedules anyway.

BTDT with Andrew..... He's 4.5 and still naps most days (there is hope they aren't giving up naps!). Yes, when he naps, he goes to bed later, and with no nap, he is out cold by 8 p.m. At least now at age 4.5, there are no super major meltdowns at 5 p.m., so it's a little easier now. Can't say the same for Lauren....

I just go with the flow - and its hard if your used to a schedule. I know that if my kids go to bed late, they sleep later. Since they are getting up at 7, I would have to agree on trying to cut the nap time shorter. Trust me, I know how it is to wake them up - but its short lived and we have a much better night here.

Good Luck!

Jack is no angel either but it's worth dealing with for a day or two until he's back on his normal routine. They'll be "nasty" but probably be ready for bed well before 10. It's worth a shot, no?
