My swiss cheese house!
We always knew we had some areas of concern--cold drafts in certain rooms, mostly the front of the house, etc. But this storm, with all the wind, makes it abundantly clear that we need to do something about it.
What kind of company would I call to evaluate the problem areas? We're not sure if it's the insulation, windows, attic, or a combination of it all. A lot of cold air is coming in around the window frames. What do we do about that? caulk inside? outside?
I'd love to re-side, but we don't have the money for that now.
Where do you begin?

You can get an energy auditor to come to the house and detect where you are losing energy.

Take a lit candle and hold it around the door and window frames. If it flickers, then you know that is an area where you have a draft. At home Depot they sell this foam stuff you can put into your window frames and plastic sheeting you can seal on the windows.
