My stinky washing machine...

I know someone posted about how their washing machine stinks recently but I can't find the post...what am I supposed to use to get rid of the stench?

bleach.....i think there is a setting for a cleaning rinse cycle

and then never close the door...keep it open to dry out the bin

ok well when my machine became stinky it was a warning that the a major flood is about to take place. i tried to get rid of smell w bleach, vinegar etc,run machine empty etc! buttttt............... in about a week or so my machine was so clogged (which was causing smell) that my basement was flooded because the cycle got stuck on fill because the sensors were clogged the water level kept increasing and increasing and increasing... (and same thing on rinse cycle) so if i were u, i would get someone to check for clogs (somewhere in back of machine??), just to clean it out so u dont have a horrible flood like me!!! there has to be a reason for the smell!

we just had a problem with the water in the washer smelling like rotten eggs and it was our hot water heater. It flooded!!! The inside was all corroded, you'd never know it from the outside and it wasn't that old.

This will help:


1. Keep the door open after a load until the washer is COMPLETELY dry.

2. Tide sells tablets you throw in the wash and then run a HOT cycle. They're in the laundry detergent aisle.

3. You can use just regular bleach and run a HOT cycle.

4. You can use powdered dishwashing cleaner instead of bleach or the Tide cleaners.

I had the same problem. Now I use Affresh once a month and leave the lid open after each cycle for a few hours. No more smell!

i would say white vinegar. When I cant get the smell out of my garbage pail - bleach does NOT work, only vinegar does.
