My Registry Experience
I went yesterday to register. DH and I asked my mom to come along because she has some really good opinions on how functionable things really are.
I must say that I was surprised at how well everything went. First, we went to a store in Brooklyn to look at the BumbleRide strollers. We originally wanted the Queen B, which is a pram stroller. But, upon inspecting it we realized that it really was too cumbersome for us. Don't get me wrong it was absolutely beautiful and if I didn't have to lug it up and down two flights of stairs every day we definately would have gotten it. We fell in love with the Flyer. It is soooo light weight, full size, loads of features, and very well made. Don't get me wrong, it is a little bulky, but the fact that it was so light and I was able to easily fold it up and carry it around, that made up for the bulkiness. Plus, we also registered for the Snap N Go, so if we don't feel like lugging the BumbleRide, we have that. If anyone was thinking about them and wondering how they were, they are definately worth checking out if you have a retailer near you.
Then, it was on to BRU. Aside from it taking forever, I had a great time. We pretty much finished everything. I was the scanner, DH was in charge of "inventory" (checking off from the suggested things to register for list), and my mom was pulling things off the shelves and inspection .
We really did have a great time. I did not feel overwhelmed at all. I had in my mind what I was going to register for, although somethings were changed in the store upon inspeciton. But, I had my Baby Bargains book at hand and saw what they had to say about the safety and stuff like that. Although, there were a bunch of new things that weren't listed in the Baby Bargains book yet, so we just used our instinct and common sense.
I really recommend bringing your mom or someone with experience with children. My mom is very good a letting us pick what we want and not being too overbearing, so we didn't mind bringing her. If your mom is the kind where she has to make all the decisions, I would recommend bringing a friend who has a child, who whould just offer her opinion. I say this because I had NO CLUE when we got to the baby care and bathing aisle. DH and I would have never known to get the A+D over the other stuff and things like that. Mom was in her glory and I couldn't scan fast enough. She knew what we needed and what was a waste (I use that word lightly). She was also great with the bottles and nipples and stuff like that. We would have registered for everything, but she told us to wait because we don't know what the baby will like. She doesn't want us getting stuck with things we can't use.
Sorry so long, but all in all we had a great time. Not overwhelming as long as you do your research. Although, don't "follow the book" too closely and be prepared to change your mind.
Hope this helps for the ladies that will be going soon.
