My new fear... can anyone help?

Well I am psyched about having a Chat Icon BUT I am so scared about all the basic care stuff but to add to it all I just realized I will have to take extra special care of the circumsized (sp?) area. Anyone have any tips or websites that cover this special care? TIA

There's a book called Baby 411 that helped me calm down about that.

They also show you in the hospital.

I was scared but we only had to do a few things. The dr had us cover a tiny gauze pad with vaseline and cover his "area" with it. Then after we ran out of gauze pads they told us just to add vaseline to the front of the diaper. I did that for about a week or 2 and that was it.

I thought it would be worse but it was fine. I am trying to remember if they gave you the instructions on a sheet when you left the hospital.

One thing you need to be sure is to get the vaseline under the "head". My son's circumscion readhered itself. Throw vaseline/A&D all over it. Always have the diaper on BEFORE putting the rubbing alcohol on the umblilical cord stump.

It only takes a few days to heal.

eta. and this is going to sound silly be be careful to check for any of your hair (if you have long hair). It can get wrapped around EVERYTHING - including little toes and any other thing sticking out.Chat Icon

Thank you!
Are there disolveable stitches involved too?

I don't remember any stiches. I do remember it was really easy (I was in the hospital 4 days with a c/s - so I had extra care with the nurses there - so it's not that long to heal.

like others have said - lots of A&D

Re: My new fear... can anyone help?

We put vaseline on a small gauze pad, placed it over the tip then put a large gauze pad over that (without vaseline on it) so that the diaper wouldn't soak up all the vaseline. DS's area healed in a little over a week. I don't think there were any stitches, but I don't reall remember Chat Icon

The only tips I have are:

1. get extra gauze pads. I used the small ones and the larger ones. You want to get the regular ones, not the ones with the coating on it.

2. LOTS of vaseline. I liked the kind in the tube that you squeezed, not the tub. much easier. Also, you get lots from the hospital but it's never enough.

ETS: also, the large gauze pad prevents any poopie from getting in that area.

The hospital I had my son at used the Hollister Plastibell (don't worry there is no graphic pictures). I was told to just leave it alone untill the bell fell off.

It's a medicated ointment similar to vaseline or aquaphor.
