My little blessing

I just need to get out some of the emotions I am feeling right now, no real other purpose to this post. My grandmother passed away last Tuesday after battling the most insane illness I had heard of - a tear in her colon, causing 3 surgeries, two weeks of intubation, 4 weeks in the ICU, 3 weeks in the hospital and over 2 months in the rehab. She was sent home the Thursday before. I think when she got home she looked around and thought to herself, I don't want this life, I can't do this to my family, my husband... and released. She passed in her sleep, she was found in the morning. We all got to say goodbye to her in the home she took such pride and joy in. My grandmother was more than a "grandma" to her grandchildren, she is who raised us. We were with her every single day growing up, and we saw her every weekend as we got older. She was a true matriarch. She was my first best friend, my first confidant, and I'm going to miss her terribly.

My little man brought her so much happiness over the last few months of her life. She got one good month holding him when he was first born before she went into the hospital. And we showed her pictures and videos and then once she was in the rehab we brought him to her and we stayed in the lobby. We got to spend a few hours with her on Sunday, which was nice. She got a kick out of his chubby cheeks. Throughout this past week, DS has been the one joy we all can hold on to. As my aunt said, it's so hard to be sad when you look at his face. I look at him, at my brother, my cousin, all of us and I see her, I see her legacy, and I know she will always be with us.

I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. It sounds like you had such a special relationship with your grandma. Your son definitely brought her so much joy during her last days.
It's amazing what these little babies do to you, I swear, my son changed our lives in so many ways also, and brought joy to so many when times were really rough. I know how you feel as I experienced way too many losses so far.

Your son is so lucky and blessed that he was able to meet his great-grandma. Even though he won't remember it, he will see the pictures and feel lucky.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. What a blessing for your ds to have known his great grandma even though it was brief. You will treasure those memories forever.

I could barely read what your wrote as tears filled my eyes. My grandma is losing her battle to cancer and time is short. My girls are her everything. I'm trying to treasure these moments between my girls and their great Grammy. Life is so short and moves so quickly. Who we loved and who loves us is all that matters.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your DS truly is a blessing and will help to get you through this rough time.

My aunt who I was very close to died when DD was 3 months old. I will always be forever grateful that she got to meet DD.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I definitetly think these things are very different to go through once you become a parent. For one thing your perspective changes in a lot of ways. What's hard is that you can't just hide out and mourn like you would have in the past and instead you have to get on with the daily grind immediately. It's great that you have those memories of your son and grandmother meeting. My hunsband's grandmother passed when DD1 was about 6 weeks and it brought so much joy to the whole family that she had become a great grandmother for the first time and just to have a new baby around during that difficult time. My own grandmother was moved to a nursing home when DD2 was a month or so old. I got one great picture of them at home first and I cherish that. Now we visit her at the nursing home but it's definitely not the same as sitting around her kitchen table when she was in better health. I'm sure your grandmother cherished every second with your son and you will always have those memories.
