When I was pg with my first I went to the edamame spa which is a pregnancy spa and they said no massages in the first trimester.

Re: My last anxious question for today (maybe)
the problem with massage is that there is a CHANCE that the toxins being released because of the massage can damage the baby - by passing through the cord.
there is no FIRM data suggesting this - but the 'theory' is enough to worry spas and 90% of places will not TOUCH you until you are out of the first trimester.
i am so sorry about your doc's 'whatever' attitude....

i hate to say it but i would reschedule the massage. when i called a spa they said they won't do massages on women if they're in their first trimester. it's just not worth it! you should wait until your third trimester when you're extremely uncomfortable like i am

The MAIN reason most places do not do massages in 1st trimester is due to liability. The chances for miscarriage are much higher in the 1st trimester and it's a very delicate stage. This is why most people do not want the burden of a potential miscarriage. Even if it was not the massage, places want to be on the "safe" side. Most women's hormones also in their 1st trimester are all over the place and have morning sickness. Massage can make you feel VERY nauseous after a massage. And this is NOT pleasurable to feel so nauseous after you have a massage.
