My dream feed nightmare....

Oh boy, so last night hubby and I were watching a movie that ended around 11:30 and Chase was due to wake up at 11 for a bottle, so we were thrilled that he was still sleeping. I waited up because I thought he'd get up any minute, but at 12:30, he was still fast asleep. So I decided to dream feed him. I picked him up and decided not to change his diaper, I fed him and only burped him once and put him right back down. It worked perfectly...or so I thought. At 4:30 he woke for another bottle and was soaked through his pjs and screaming in pain from gas because I didn't burp him enoughChat Icon I felt sooooo bad! He ended up staying up from 4:30 until after 6:30 because he was so uncomfortable from all the gas he had. Ugg. So, note to self, next time, change diaper and burp because it's so not worth it to not do it!Chat Icon

I never changed diaper, but always burp. Just use an overnight diaper or a size up, so that it holds all the stuff.

In the beginning DS would always wake up when I burped I had a few nightmares myself when I gave up on burps. But it will get be better, I would suggest you keep doing it, it takes practice. Just use a thicker diaper and give him lots of time upright to burp.

Yeah I hated that about the dream feeds - the burping because I felt it woke DD's up, but then again I'd rather them be up at 12 then 1,2 or 3 screaming then having to be burped. Chat Icon

Re: My dream feed nightmare....

we never burped after a dreamfeed - because they are doing nothing but sucking/eating....so no 'air' is taken in (or so everything i've read claims)....

we always did the diaper change though - because when Em's OUT - she's OUT and just putting a bottle to her mouth doesn't wake her up....the change always woke her up 'enough' to get her to eat.

i'm so sorry you had a bad time of it!
