My dog is bleeding on her face!

So my dog has been scratching her snout for a while now (few weeks). At first it was nothing and just seemed irritated or itchy, but its gotten progressively worse and its almost like shes scratching away her fur and whiskers from this one little area. Now DH says he just got home and she is actually bleeding in the area in question. That is a first. I was hoping it was getting better as I hadn't seen her scratching in a while and it seemed to be healing up.

Besides taking her to the vet (which I willl do asap), does anyone have any other suggestions about how I can soothe the irritation until I can get her to the doc? or if anyone has any idea why she has suddenly become so irritated in one part of her skin. I feel so bad for her.Chat Icon

Re: My dog is bleeding on her face!

The vet will probably give her antibiotics and a neck cone to stop her from scratching. If she doesn't tolerate a plastic cone, I can highly recommend a "Comfy Cone", you can buy it on Amazon. I got mine in a day.

You can get Neosporin with pain relief AND Bactine in it. That's the best thing. I was doing Bactine + Neosporin for a couple of weeks and it worked great.

They'll probably shave the area to get a better look too. Does she have dry skin, is that why she's scratching? Do you have plastic food/water bowls? I ask because I know some people's dogs have gotten a skin infection from them. Good luck at the vet. Chat Icon
