My dad is the BEST
My dad is retired and is super psyched to be a first time grandpa. We're looking for a nanny 3 days a week for the academic year and need Tues,Thurs and Fridays. . . well - he says the other day:
"I've given it a lot of thought and I'd really like to watch the baby on Tuesdays for you guys - I think it will be really great that I can have such special time with my grandchild, just the two of us."
He will have to drive from western nassau county to Long Island City (last exit on LIE before midtown tunnel) to do it, but he said it's no problem at all.
He's now referring to his upcoming day care gig as "Tuesday's with Grampie!"
He ROCKS!

That is great. We are staying with my parents right now while our house is being done and my mom works, but my dad is newly retired. He has been a Godsend! My brother has a son who is 7 and my dad is close with him, but he watches the baby and lets me get out for an hour or two each day and it gives him great time to bond with his new granddaughter, consider yourself blessed

that is just so sweet....
my girls grandparents spend a ton of time with them...and its really their grandpa that does the most with them...swimmng, gardening etc...he's off the boat Italian and when they were toddlers they would sometimes say things with an Italian accent

My Dad has watched Ryan one day a week since he was about 18 months. It is the most awesome thing and i am so gald that Ryan gets to have that special time with him. You are very lucky.
PS- What does that onesie say, I cant make out the last line but I am thinking its a good one.

That is so wonderful -- what a great gift for your baby!
When I was a kid my grandpa still worked (nights), but he spent every Wednesday with us from before I can remember until my little brother went to school (probably around 10 years).
He was always there when I woke up in the morning to make us breakfast and we always went to the park and out for lunch. When I was a kid that was just normal, but now as an adult I think back on it as the best gift he could ever have given me.
