my dad didn't call for dd's 1st bday
So, I'll try to make this as short as possible...
my parents divorced when i was four. it's been a rocky road with my dad. he's a good dad, but there is definitely more that he could have/should have done for my sister and i growing up. i had my issues with that growing up, but now that i am an independent adult i have kind of just shrugged it off and have tried to look past it. i am just trying to be grateful to have a dad and a grandpa for my daughters. well, dd's first birthday party is this saturday and my dad and stepmom (who live about 5 hours OOS)are not coming because my dad got a concussion at work a few weeks ago and is still having ringing in is ears. On another note my dad has been dealing with depression the last few months (which, i know is a disease etc, but after everything HE is the one with depression?!)...so anyway they're not coming. Well, today was DD's first birthday and they didn't even call! I know she's only one and she has no clue, but the rest of us do! i got an email early this morning from my stepmom, but it's just not the same....
I know to those of your who don't know my entire family dynamic might not get it and say "oh well, he has depression,etc " but it's just still a bummer that he didn't even call to say happy birthday to his granddaughter ..i guess that's the main point ...even my FIL who is on a business trip called to say happy birthday

Your DD will never remember, but he will so shame on him. His loss.
My dad and I were in an argument when my DC turned 1 and he also didn't call or send a card. It has been many years and it still bothers me. I STILL look at it as his loss though

thanks...they are always thoughtful and send cards, etc for holidays, but in the email from stepmom she said " i think we're sending the gift today" ...i know she won't know but still...
