my coworker just scared me ???
Everyday I drink from a new 36 oz Styrofoam cup and I put 3 -4 lemon wedges in it and fill it with ice water throughout the day. I have been doing this for 3 years.
Well today my coworker looks at me and says the acid in the lemon breaks down the Styrofoam and slowly I am ingesting the poison !
First of all even if that's true please don't scare me like that... I have panic attacks left and right and he knows it. I am shaking now

I think that's one of those urban legends... kind of along the same line as freezing your waterbottle will release cancer-causing toxins... pay no mind to the idiot co-working trying to get a rise out of you

I found this info but the experiment used Limonene which obviously derives from citrus friuts but is much more concentrated.

That way you won't have to worry about it and will also be helping the environment.

Apparently some minute quanities of styrene -- a toxin and possible carcinogen -- can leach out of styrofoam when it's either heated or exposed to an acid (like lemon juice).
That's why you're not supposed to heat up takeout leftovers in the styrofoam container the restaurant puts your food in.
I don't know if it's enough to cause a health problem, though.
Personally I would never drink out of a styrofoam cup, just because they are not biodegradable.

they are in my cafeteria and its convenient i will never use one again!!! but now I am bugging out! I just had blood work done 3 days ago and I was fine should i go to the dr?

No, you don't have to go to the Dr. If there really was a problem and you have been drinking this way for 3 years, it would have shown itself by now. And like you said, you just had blood work done and you were fine. Focus on that and that should help calm your nerves. Go out today, get yourself a new big plastic cup and use that from now on. That should help with your worries as well. As for your co-worker, they're a jacka$$ for upsetting you like this for no reason.
