My birth story
I never thought I would be even thinking about giving birth in December let alone actually doing it but then again nothing in this pregnancy was normal. I had pretty bad morning sickness and then developed DVTs at 29 weeks and was put on house arrest until my due date. I started seeing a high risk Dr after the clots and was monitored on a weekly basis and sometimes saw Drs 2x a week (OB & high risk). At my last high risk apt on Dec 27th I had a non-stress test that was perfect and then a sono/Doppler to check on the baby. They said my fluid were slightly low but nothing to worry about just keep my fluid intake up. Joked with my family and DH that maybe we will get the tax break baby. Off to bed on the 27th at 11pm and at around 12:30 am I was woken up by a huge kick (or so I thought) and it ended up being my water breaking. I called Dr. A’s emergency line and when he called I told him either my water broke or I peed myself…….he said no problem go to Good Sam and we will check. By 130am we were at Good Sam and getting checked out. I was 2 cm dilated. They moved me to a labor and delivery room. That is when the contractions started and in full force I had to have meds to counter act the Heparin I was on. Once I had the shpt I had to wait for 2 hrs before I could get an epidural. The contractions were nasty and I was just watching the clock for 5 am when I could have my epidural. I was not dilating anymore than the 2 cm so once I got the epidural I also got pitocin and just waited. The epidural was the best thing ever!!!!! My Dr came back in and checked me around 10am and to my surprise I was fully dilated and ready to push. I pushed until noonish when the little guy just did not want to move all the way down. The Dr was not happy with the little guys heart rate at certain points and we decided a csection would be the best option at that point. I was wisked into the OR and at 12:55 Gavin Nicholas was born and my life has forever changed. I stayed in the hospital for 3 days (could have stayed 4) and decided to go home because I was feeling good and Gavin was good and figured it was quieter at home. A little review of Good Sam. Overall I was very happy. The nurses were very nice but they were very pushy when it came to breast feeding. I wanted to give it a try but it was not working and when I said I wanted to change to bottle some of them were very pushy about staying with the breast. My roommate was loud. She would talk on the phone and only used speakerphone and her IV alarm would go off and she would ignore it rather than call for a nurse. The rooms are a bit small but I survived and would deliver there again because of the care I received.
If anyone has questions about Good Sam or anything let me know I would be happy to answer whatever I can.
