My BF son refuses formula, Help please. Any advice is welcomed.

My DS was only dranked bm for the first six months. About two weeks prior to six months, I started introducing a bottle of formula. DS hates, hates, hates formula. For weeks I played around with bm and formula mixtures ending w/ 5oz formula and 1oz bm. He would drink them. So I have tried to do 6oz bm and no such luck. He refuses to drink it. Daycare is now adding cereal to all his bottles to make him drink the milk. This has been pretty sucessful, however I am now concern about the extra calories he is taking in everyday, especially since he takes three bottles and has breakfast and lunch solids. Is there anyway DS will learn to at least tolerate formula. I have only six weeks left of bm in freezer then im all out.

I do think he will eventually get the taste for it (unless there are allergies??). You're easing up on the BM at each feeding & gradually adding to a full formula, right?

I have been doing that. He was drinking 5oz formula and 1oz bm for 6oz total just fine. The next step I figure was 6oz formula.

I will try goodstart. I know he doesn't like Enfamil, never thought of GoodStart though.

Good Start didn't work for us but I agree with the mixing the formula with the BM for a while. We did that for about a week before we went to full bottles of formula. We are using Similac Alimentum because every other formula we tried really bother DS and he was up all night in pain.

how old is he?
i had this problem when i had to cold turkey wean DD @ 10 months. she constantly refused every formula i offered-it was maddening!Chat Icon i actually did the unthinkable (with my PED's permission) and transitioned her to regular milk instead. she was eating a wide variety of foods by then though. here she is @ 2.5 yrs old and healthy as ever!
keep trying though you never know when ihe might take it!

I tasted A LOT of formulas before choosing the sweetest one. But I also mixed BM and formula for a few weeks, that really helped us.

DS is almost 8 months. I have been mixing the formula for about eight weeks. He has been on the 5formula/ 1bm mix for 3 weeks.

Unfortunately I don't think he will ever willing transfer from the 5/1 mix to all formula on his own. I think he would have done so by now.

I tried supplementing for a few days a few months back.. my daughter refused formula... she was SO DRAMATIC she would gag and throw up Chat Icon

I'm lucky I can stay at home and I kept nursing like a mad woman to increase my supply. I don't have any advice but I understand and sympathize for you!

Re: My BF son refuses formula, Help please. Any advice is welcomed.

I have tried almost every type of formula out there...I wanted to give him some in case I ever didn't have enough BM. He didn't like any.

Similac was the only one he would actually drink after about 5 minutes of getting him to try it, but he spit it up alot after.

Enfamil - he wouldn't even drink. He closes his mouth tight, and whines and fusses.

Good Start - he threw up the entire bottle all over my mother. Chat Icon Chat Icon

So here I am, he's 9 m/o, pumping away...I have no choice because he will not tolerate formula. Chat Icon

Sorry I am no help, but I feel your pain. Chat Icon

I gave dd some formula for the first time around 4.5 months (good start protect/gentle plus) and she was fine with it. maybe I just have a little piggie that will eat anything but I'd definitely try good start :)
good luck.

When I transitioned my son to formula from BM, I tried a few but the Good Start is the one he liked the best, and he is still on. The ped's office told me the taste and consistency was similiar to BM.
