My almost 6 mo old does this inhaling squeal thing - is this wheezing?
So I asked the ped about this at her 5 mo visit (almost a month ago now) b/c she had just started doing it a few weeks b/f and he said she was fine and it was just a sound she was making. But, it really bothers me and I'm going to ask him again but, I figured I'd ask here first. What does asthma wheezing sound/look like? Would the ped be able to tell the difference just by examining her?
ETA: Forgot to describe the noise  It is like she is squealing while inhaling at the same time.

My DS (9 months old) does this too as if he's laughing but breathing in instead of out. Is it like that? I think he's just "playing" with sounds.

Put your ear to her chest when she does it - that's where wheezing comes from. Any sound you may hear out of the mouth with wheezing is just a by-product. I'm sure it's just a sound she's making

Wheezing is easier to discern by listening to the chest. They can make lots of noises with the rest of their mouth.
It will sound like a whistle in their chest, usually at the end of the exhale.. at least that is how Liam's was when he was sick with RSV and other wheezing illnesses. It's usually on the exhale.. I mean, I guess it could be on the inhale if it was severe.. but, then your ped would have totally picked up on it.
ETA: I kept insisting to the Ped that Liam was wheezing.. they always said he wasn't.. then when he finally was wheezing for real and they heard it I was really able to hear the difference between playing with sounds or junky sounding breaths and true wheezing.

I think she is just making sounds. DS has started doing this. He crunches up his face and inhales when he laughs.

DS did something like this and the ped sent him to an ENT..it was called stridor

Em does this....it's just a new sound she's learned...
i got it on video and posted it on facebook all worried & that was the conclusion. I asked the doc - same answer....she's learned a new sound!

I googled this and it looks SCARY! Did he have any other symptoms? DId he seem to be in distress when doing it? How frequently did it happen?
I'm def. going to run this by the ped but, if she doesn't do it in his presence not sure I can get my mind put at ease

My baby did this around 6 months too. He would chuckle every time I would jump at the noise. It seemed to be just a little neat sound he figured out. He stopped when he started making more noises and became more vocal. it is a scary little sound!

Haha Kieran started doing this around 4ish months I think. For like a week straight I thought there was something wrong with him! There isn't. He was totally just experimenting with new sounds he could make (which he still does- new sounds all the time!). It's just them exploring their voices and learning what they can do with them. No need for worry!
ETA: Like PP said, he also stopped doing it when he discovered new sounds to make!
