Re: Must Dos in San Francisco

If you are only going to be there for one day, I would skip Fisherman's wharf - you'll see all you really need to on the way to Alcatraz. The Wharf and Pier 39 in general is a lot of cheezy tourist crap and when I lived there, the only time I ever went there was when visitors came from out of town.

Go out to the Cliff House on Ocean Beach, there is a lot to see in Golden Gate Park, or in the Presidio. The Exploratorium is very cool. You can see the whole city from the top of Twin Peaks, I took most of my visitors there. Coit Tower is also a great view and near North Beach and Chinatown, which are fun to walk around in. I like the Haight, but some people don't. There are some interesting shops and bars/restaurants, but it can be a little dicey at night.

Depending on how much time you have, Muir Woods is a great thing to see, but you would need a car and it's a little bit of a drive north of the city.

as a past resident of 5yrs, I agree with all of this, and would add walking on Golden Gate Bridge - especially if its a clear day. If you hit up North Beach, go early and get foccacia at Liguria Bakery - its all they sell, and they close when they sell out, usually by 11am. The cinnamon raisin and pizza varieties are the best!

Spring & Fall are the best times to visit SF - ENJOY!
