Multiple C-Sections

I had my ds almost 12 weeks ago by csection. He was my 1st so I would like to have more kids. Just curious how many csections others have had or what their doctor thinks is ok and the age between 2 back to back csections.

Re: Multiple C-Sections

I would discuss your case with your obgyn but for me personally, 2 years was my minimum to have another DC.

Multiple C-Sections

i had two, my OB had 4.
they usually say to way at least 2 years, but i have known ppl yo have them back to back, but stopped at 2.

each dr. has their own opinion and each woman has had a C for their own reasons. so really only you & your dr. can determine.

Re: Multiple C-Sections

My girls were 21 months apart and my ob said to wait at least 8-12 months to try. He said there wasn't an exact number on how many babies to have but anything more than 4 csecs could be worrisome.

There was 13 months between my 1st and 2nd csection. The doc even laughed and said he would see me again next year!! The 1st recovery i thought was very good the 2nd was amazingly good. I got out of hospital on day 2. I was up and walking and showering after 12 hours. I already told the doctor i plan to have 4!!

I've had two. My doctor is one of the top rated docs in NY and she had mentioned to me that I should only have 1 more. I'm not sure why - in the moment I didn't ask.

But I still would like another kid if my life goes that way..

I believe my doc had 4 herself. And so did a woman on her staff ..

But ask your doc

My friend had 2 15 mos apart. She had wanted to try for a VBAC the second time but, the Dr said no since it was so close together.

Re: Multiple C-Sections

I have my annual this month so I am going to ask. Im not planning on getting pregnant right now anyway I was just thinking into the future. I figured I would at least wait 1 year before trying between kids regardless of delivery. I just was curious about others experiences.

Thanks!

My OB recommends waiting a full year in between C-sections so your body has time to fully heal. You *could* get pregnant earlier than that but he said you run the risk of having some complications. I had 2 C-sections...........4.5 years apart.

I've had three c-sections. My doctor didn't advise anything regarding a waiting period and my first two DC are 20 mos. apart. After my third, I was advised to stop because of a lot of scar tissue and adhesions.

I had 4 c-sections.
My first two were 15.5 months apart
There was at least three years between all the others.
When I wanted to get pregnant with #4, I went to see my dr. who went thru the notes from my previous C-section. He said I had very minimal scar tissue and no adhesions and that a fourth would be fine.
I was told during my fourth that I must be a good healer, because there was no scar tissue or issues from the third and if I wanted to go for #5, I could.
My dr. has had women who have had up to 6-sections.

Re: Multiple C-Sections

I've had 2, 33 months apart.

I DID have a ton of scar tissue and much more than normal bleeding during my 2nd in January. Normal blood loss is 1/2 a liter, I lost 2.

Pain post op was MUCH less with #2 for some reason.

No restrictions from my doctor. After me first, he did say that it is preferred we wait a year for full healing before having #2.

Ultimately, ask YOUR doctor.

Re: Multiple C-Sections

I've already had 3 and #4 will be scheduled next week.

It was 18 months between #1 and #2.
26 months between #2 and #3.
It will be 3+ years between #3 and #4. (I wish they were closer though. Chat Icon )

My OB never advised me on holding off on future pregnancies (just abstaining from intercourse from a recovery standpoint) and even now, he told me it's fine to be open to the idea of more children.

I did have complications with my wound healing with c/s #1 and c/s #3, but each recovery got easier otherwise.

Re: Multiple C-Sections

I had 3 c-sections
The first two were 17 mo apart - not exactly planned!! Chat Icon but all went well!!!

The 3rd c-section was 3 years later and it took a while to close me up bec there was a lot of scar tissue! But all was fine after that (took a little over 2 hrs after baby was born to close me up)

My dr didn't say I couldn't have a fourth / but it def would be something to seriously think about! But I am pretty sure we are done! So it most likely not be an issue !!

So you should def not have a problem with 3 back to back!

My sister had 3 kids, all 14 months apart, all c-sections. She seemed to have no complications. But again, everyone is different. I would ask your doc. Good luck!

Re: Multiple C-Sections

In general, it is recommended that you wait 18 months after your first c-section before getting pregnant again. This gives your uterus time to heal and decreases the chances of tears as it begins to stretch for the next baby.

I was told to wait a year before be having a 2nd c-section. I'm now pregnant w/ #2 and it will be over 2 & 1/2 years when I have my 2nd.

The dr did mention that if I wanted 4-5 kids, then maybe I should consider a vBac, but we're more along the lines of 2-3 kids, so I'm having a c.

My mom had 3 c sections (her 3rd at the age of 38). And my cousin has had 4 c sections, her 4th at 40! Neither had complications.

Re: Multiple C-Sections

I've had 3 csections, but they were spread out. My OB doesn't recommend another csection because usually after 2 the scar tissue is really weakens.

The OBs that I work with (I'm a nurse) recommends if you have 2 back to back(within a year to 20mos) that the patient wait at least 3 years before trying again once again it has to do with the scar tissue and weakened uterus.

They say no more than 3 maybe 4. And at least 18 mo in between, but better to wait 2 yrs or more. To give your body time to heal. I read somewhere just recently that it takes your uterus close to a year and sometimes more to completely heal.

Re: Multiple C-Sections

Thank you everyone! My Ob literally did not say one word about the topic. You would think she would have mentioned something. At my pp visit she asked what birth control I planned on using and I said condoms. So nothing that permanent obviously pregnancy could happen. Im gonna have to discuss this with her. Im not opposed to a vbac. I guess I will figure it out with her and see what my best options are for the future.
