Mulch & Weeds
So DH and I spent like a whole weekend pulling literally carpets of weeds out of one of our flower beds because we were so overwhelmed with painting, unpacking, and brutal heat last summer to deal with the outside at all. Things got out of hand out there.
well, we were exhausted and it got too late to go get mulch, so we didn't, and now there's crab grass sprouting EVERYWHERE.
Can I just throw mulch on it to stop the weeds even tho they already started sprouting, or do I need to deal with the weeds first? They're too tiny to pull...

Re: Mulch & Weeds
If you just put mulch over, unfortunately, they will grow through it. You would have to put down the landscape plastic sheeting over the weeds and then put the mulch on top of that.

Exactly. You need a lanscape sheet and then mulch on top to stop the weeds.

darn it! maybe i need to plant more stuff too. right now there's a lot of surface area (i.e. opportunity). how does the plastic work in terms of the good plants getting water? do i just cut big holes around them?

Re: Mulch & Weeds
The landscaper fabric won't work. Weeds STILL go through it.
Lay a thick layer of newspaper first. Then landscaper fabric and VERY THICK mulch layer.

I would dig them out first then do newspaper and landscape fabric. I also heard black plastic like the contractor bags works they don't get any light
