Mucus Plug

My sister texted me yesterday saying that she couldnt meet up for dinner today because she's losing pieces of her mucus plug.

I called her immediately and told her to call her doctor because shes only 27 weeks. Her doctor does not have an answering service and said if this is an emergency to go to the ER Chat Icon

She called her insurance nurse help line and they said since shes not bleeding she should be fine but she should go to the ER if she wants to. She ended up not going to the ER and said she would call the dr's office this morning to see if they could see her and I told her to ask why her dr does not have an answering service and what happens if there was an emergency and she went to the ER how would she get in contact with the dr.

I told her to take it easy since shes in her last trimester. She still lifts up her son who is almost 50lbs to put him in his car seat (i told her to let him slide himself in the seat from now on, she forgets because its habit).

Well my question for you ladies is should we be worried that shes losing pieces of her mucus plug so early?

It can grow back, but I'd definitely be worried.

I would call. I lost mine completely at 31 weeks and change and was sent to L&D for monitoring. Within an hour I was contracting every 3 mins and was admitted overnight, given meds to stop the contractions and was on bed rest until 36 weeks. Oh and it never grew back.
