Mucous plug question

So many questions, sorry:

Does everyone ALWAYS lose their MP? Is it common to go into labor, having not lost it?
How many weeks were you when you lost it? Would I really know if I did? Does it always come out when you go to the bathroom, or would it just be there in your underwear? Gross, but I am curious, as I am approaching 39 1/2 weeks, and NADA!!! Thanks.

Re: Mucous plug question

I lost mine while in labor. The first few major contractions, I felt like I had to pee SO BADLY and huge globs of mucus came out. Had my bloody show 3 hours after that, then went to the hospital. DD was born about 5-6 hours after those first globs lol. I was 39 w 5 d. (She was born just after midnight, one day early,) I was only in labor a total of 6 hours.

Re: Mucous plug question

It doesn't always come out in one huge glob, it can come out slowly over a period of time. I think I've been losing mine slowly - I get a lot of EWCM type discharge during the day.

Re: Mucous plug question

I lost mine over a few hours, the day I went into labor. Contractions were about 10-15 minutes apart when I started to lose it.

Re: Mucous plug question

as far as I know it can go either way - some people lose it all at once days before labor starts, some lose it in pieces during the week(s) before, and others do not lose it at all until after they've already gone into labor and have begun to dilate. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Re: Mucous plug question

I just lost mine this week- it came in pieces... i went to pee and saw the "bloody show" in the toilet- the next day there was a glob of mucus on my underwear, looked like a large glob of boogers Chat Icon
it doesn't mean anything though- from what they doctors have said there is no significance...

Re: Mucous plug question

I started to loose mine & ten minutes later my water broke. It was like clear bloody snot! so gross!! I went back to bed bc at the time I was guessing it was my MP & everyone told me that means nothing, it was also 1am. however my water broke!

I was at my internal at 39 weeks, ZERO dilated, 2 days later I was in labor! and I was 5 days early!! so you never know!

Re: Mucous plug question

I lost mine throughout the day. I woke up at 4am to use the bathroom and when I got up i felt a good amount of fluid come out. Then whenever I went to the bathroom there was this gloppy mucus in the toilet.

Re: Mucous plug question

36 weeks 3 days appt: no progress

37 week 3 days appt: 1 cm dilated and 0 effaced

38 weeks 2 days: started losing my plug. snotty stuff on the tissue and a big glob.

38 weeks 3 days appt: told doc I started losing my plug. He checks me and says I'm still 1 cm, but starting to thin out. Tells me to come back in 2 days.

38 weeks 4 days: lose more plug

38 weeks 5 days: lose more plug and see doc. 1 cm and about 80% effaced. Says the baby is coming soon! Contractions start about 5 hours later and DS is born the next morning!

Re: Mucous plug question

Mine came out in two HUGE pieces... TMI..... but seriosuly they looked like and were the size of small slugs. SO GROSS.

I lost the first part the night of my 41 week appointment and the rest the next morning when I woke up. I went into labor that night.
